    What is the average cost for an hours labor for a plumber? I just was charged a huge amount for a 20 min job.

    Probably after they add in their fees for truck, shop supplies, labour, probably looking at around $100-$120ish.

    Get the statement of work from the plumber so you know what you are paying for. I wouldn't just pay someone $300 dollars when I had no idea what they even did. Most hourly rates of a plumber are $80-100 and if they got called out after business hours it will be more.

    Most if not all trades charge a minimum one hour charge. This will include usually a truck charge, travel to and from your home and paper work. There is more to it than just the 20-30 mins in your home.

    If you know nothing about plumbing go to any hardware store and pick up a book on plumbing. ALOT can be done by the homeowner. You can even pick up code books at home depot I believe. Some of it is pretty basic.
