It must have been a real long time ago, because our highways don't come close to what they are in the states. However one big difference as far as roads is that you don't see a graded road down every road allowance like we have in Manitoba.

Great Articles and shows the reason why governments don't want fuel prices to drop. the only way they drop is by supply and demand . that is the reason we are seeing low gas prices more supply then demand . Government would love to see it higher for all types of reasons!  
 
Our new prime minister will probably blame the low gas prices and oil for the reason for running a multimillion dollar defecate this year ( and of course the previous government)

Pretty sure $1.99 for a liter of milk is illegal. Thought the max was $1.60 as set by the province.

I always find these kind of comparisons rediculous anyway. When was the last time you bought 100 litres of milk? One has nothing to do with the other.

So, all gas stations in Winnipeg have run out of current inventory at the same time and they have all lowered their prices accordingly because they now have cheaper, new inventory, all at the same time. Dan McTeague expects us in Brandon to believe this.  
 
I was at Superstore in Brandon on Tuesday fueling up. There was a semi tanker there putting new inventory into the tanks. Using Dan McTeague's statement, the price of fuel should now be cheaper at Superstore as they have new inventory.  
 
By using Dan McTeague's statement, the price of fuel should not increase across the board until gas stations get new inventory. We all know that this is not the case.  
 
Does Dan McTeague actually believe that BS that came out of his mouth? Maybe he is caught up in the upcoming spring election and figures if politicians can say anything, he can too?

Why do you assume that all Winnipeg stations ran out of inventory at the same time? Prices at different locations in Winnipeg have varied a lot these last few days.

I was in Winnipeg yesterday. Almost all stations that I saw in Winnipeg were 69.9. When I got back to Brandon, almost all stations were 76.9.

I just looked at the Gas Buddy website. All Shell stations are at least 76.9 - one is even 77.9. This is as fo 8:46 AM. I don't know why anyone would support Shell. IMO, they are always the first to raise prices, and the last to drop. Airmiles aren't worth 8 cents/litre

Oil with a massive 8% rebound today up to now. Chances that we've seen bottom?

I spend a but of time following commodities, and the move in oil today seems impressive as a percentage, but sometimes markets get used to moving a certain amount in a dollar value, and as prices get lower a three dollar move works our nice as a percent move but as an actual turn in markets it's hard to tell. Some of the technicals have indicated a move up but there still is a long term downtrend line that has yet to be violated. On the fundamental side the picture hasn't changed much, slight reduction in American production still crushing supply.  
 
God I'm long winded.

They sure can put the prices up a lot quicker and higher than coming down. I got to Safeway with a .06 coupon still .69 there. Filled it up. 50L for 32.00 bucks. Don't know if I will ever get that kind of value again?

The gas prices have risen well over a 1.00 in some regions of Ontario and Quebec from around 80 cents yesterday.

Relax, this is not the bottom. Long way to go. Im short from $47.80 and profit target is $18. Yes $18 oil. Anyone subscribe to Realvision? Listen to some of the worlds top investors and they will give you some reasons why they are also targeting the same levels. Also if the USD resumes its bull market, and since oil is priced in dollars, it will drive it down further.  
 
After the head and shoulders pattern formed and completed in late november, Oil has been trading in an almost picture perfect channel. $20/barrel and $0.50 per liter of gasoline here we come.  
 
Alllsso if you want to PREDICT WHEN PRICE IS GOING TO GO UP OR DOWN @ THE PUMPS watch the price of oil. when it rallies on the daily, theres a 3-6 day delay for prices at the pumps. When it drops, theres also a 3-6 day delay for price to reach pumps.  
 
Take a look at the chart. You will notice that as price rallied for a week or so after gas prices were 69.9 (here in brandon) it took a few days then we see 76.9 or whatever. wait a few more days even tomorrow. price will be high 60's possibly even mid .60 cent gasoline, as we see price per bbl sink nicely into the high 20's. EVEN after a lower inventories count on Wednesday . The bears are sticking around in 2016  
 
Just be happy Oil isn't quoted in Loonies. :S. or any other currency for that matter. #globalrecession

Maybe a dumb question but which month is that chart for.

If you look to the bottom of the chart it covers period from July 2015 to present.

I guess looking at this from a point of the futures market I wondering which month this chart is following, crude oil has contracts trading for every month, so just wondering which contract the chart was for.

Chart is set to Daily, so each candle represents 1 day of price action. Time is represented on the bottom and price on the right hand side. This is a chart for USOIL which is crude oil quoted in USD. It represents oil futures which are traded around the clock. Other quotes include UKOIL WTIUSD AND CL1 for other oil price quotes

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the prices of most products from the same retailer the same nation-wide? Aren't the flyers the same across the country? For example, aren't the flyers (and prices) the same for Wal-mart, Canadian Tire, etc nation-wide? If so, that makes any kind of shipping cost argument for gas price differences null and void. From what I understand a particular brand of toothpaste from Wal-mart would cost the same in Brandon, or Winnipeg or Calgary, even though the shipping distances and costs vary. Or a particular tool from Canadian Tire would cost the same in any Canadian Tire store. So why is the price of Shell or Petro-Can gas so different across the country, or even just an hour or two away within the same province?

Ok, got it figured out, CFD trading of usoil ends at midnight, and looking at the charts I follow they are trading the March contract. I'm a little more used to charts that end during the day and do not involve the after hour trading, the after hour trading rolls into tomorrow's charts.

Below canadian average for gas prices and people are still complaining. Mind boggling that people will moan over pennies a liter.

Yup, only cents a litre, maybe not something to get upset about, but take five cents a litre on all the litres that are sold in Brandon or surrounding area, and realize that there was a large amount of money removed from the local economy. So the next question might be so what. If you look at small communities surrounding larger urban centres people usually pay slightly higher prices, and that keeps the businesses going in those communities, if the difference is within reason people don't care, if the spread gets to great on an assortment of goods, people do shop elsewhere.  
 
Guess I'm old school, a few cents a litre does make a difference in my mind.

For some reason Brandon is always higher than surrounding areas and Winnipeg in the province for gas prices.  
 
The two comments I heard the most for the reasons as to why gas prices stay high in the present despite the current oil prices from the suppliers are:  
Transport costs and cost of gas previously purchased in holding tanks.  
 
Well the cost of transport won't change at this point so that I can understand.  
 
The second reason, which also reflects suppliers is to when and how much they buy gas at high prices. I again understand you must sell through the gas at that price you need to in order to sell through, pay your costs and make your margin. However now you've had opportunity to purchase fuel at the lowest costs in years and you still feel the need to be higher than every surrounding town and city in the province? Second largest city in the province and we can't compete to be at the same or lower fuel prices with rural town prices?  
 
Is this a city tax grab, a profiting monopolization or do you have holding tanks the size of Texas? It may help if someone could explain thoroughly because the previous one of two reasons just don't seem to be to factual at this point.

I buy my fuel from Co-op, It's local and supports our local economy. Non-issue in my mind.

Can't say with 100% accuracy.but most of Brandon's gas comes from the two fuel racks in Winnipeg. I haven't checked lately but the fuel out of the Petrocanada rack was always more expensive than the fuel out of the one run by federated co-op. Across the country there are fuel sharing, or trade agreements. between oil companies. so when you say that you buy from a certain retail company you are likely are buying from co-op unless it is Petrocanada or Shell, that is if we are talking of local fuel. The refinery in Regina is one of Canada's largest and provides gas to most of western Canada as well as exports to the US.  
 
Didn't bother working the difference out as a percentage, mostly because I don't know the actual transport costs, but if we look at an 8% difference, and said that it doesn't matter, what would happen if all retail prices were increased in Brandon by 8% over the costs in Winnipeg. For myself a point that matters is gasoline is part of a persons budget, and if that part gets larger them other parts of a persons spending will become smaller, which hurts other retail business. I always hear that we shouldn't pick on fuel retailers because they have to make a living, but part of a free enterprise system is at times people get hurt.
