I know someone who was named one of 2016's young aboriginal people to watch by APTN. He is a youth from Saskatoon who was involved in gangs and drugs and has now got away from all of that. He is a motivational speaker for inner city and at risk youth. He has heard some negative things about youth violence and gangs here in Brandon, and I asked him if he could come to some school's here in Brandon. He said he would love to come here, and will send me all the proper legal booking info, but needs sponsors to help bring him here. I said I would look into it and see what I can do, I think this would be a good thing for the kids here in Brandon, but I have no idea on who to contact in regards to bringing him here....maybe The Brandon Friendship Center, or School Division? If anyone knows how to go about arranging something like this, please send me n inbox and let me know your secrets! LOL! I won't post his name publicly, cause I don't know if I can, but I will send you any info you need in a PM! He even has acquired quite the following of young people on Facebook who read his daily inspirational quotes...myself included! Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I think I know you you're talking about. I follow him on fb too and he seems like he would be a fantastic person to speak to all teens/young adults. I'd even be interested in hearing him speak  
 
I would try the BSD. There's also a few group homes for at risk teens that are with DO CFS. Also what about the people who put the pow wow on at the keystone centre?

I always try to support the local community. I am certain there are more than enough motivational speakers from Brandon that would be of use.  
 
Write a proposal to some community resources. Should include how this will benefit the youth, make it fit to the program dollars you are trying to ask help from.  
Make a budget, your targeted audience, with an expected outcome.

If this is who you're referring to, he has been to Brandon before and presented at Crocus Plains. My daughter attended when he was here and enjoyed it. Maybe try get in touch with the Brandon School Division.

I do not work for any organization nor do I represent any specific group. I am just a citizen of Brandon with a young child, and growing up here myself, I have seen the violence in youth around here increase dramatically! And I can see first hand that this fellow knows what he's talking about and he seems to be able to gain kid's confidence. I've seen teenagers mock most motivational speakers after the show, but never have I heard anyone mocking his shows...his following keeps getting bigger and bigger, witch is why he was named One of APTN Aboriginal Youth to Watch in 2016! All the helpful info is so much appreciated, has given me a lot to consider and think about! It will be quite the endeavour, but it will be worth it!

he is the co-ordinator of Brandon Urban Aboriginal Centre? He might be interested in bringing this young man to Brandon. You can access contact info from the city of Brandon website.
