are welcome, john. I think there needs to be more scrutiny. Too many people are too passive and just allow things to happen without asking questions. We are all entitled to our opinions, despite the fact that our opinions may offend the big wigs who have no problem taking more and more of our hard earned money.

That was a really great read. I had no idea the BDS operating budget is now greater than the City's budget. I also didn't know know that the  
 
"Selinger government’s funding for the BSD increased by $2.4 million this year, far less than the $3.2 million increases the division received in 2012 and 2013. If the division had received the same funding increase as in the past two years, this year’s tax increase would be much smaller."  
 
Not to mention the changes of obligations forced upon school divisions thanks the NDP Government as well as the (seems high?) percentage of budget going to salaries.

irony is that the education establishment is already being critical of a potential PC government in this province for pre-conceived cuts to education.  
 
Why is the PC Party being asked about committing to build a new school when the current NDP have had 16 years?

Now that the 2016 school division budget has been passed with a 4.44% tax increase for homeowners - I'd like to suggest a change in the school division logo/moto/slogan which currently reads "Accepting the Challenge" - maybe it should read "Give Till it Hurts".  
 
This will be a tough year for many families with another unreasonable tax increase from the school division, water rates increasing and hydro rates supposedly increasing at 4% per year for the next 10 years.  
 
Maybe it's time to remove the taxing powers from school divisions - whatever the province gives you for your annual grant is all you get - make decisions based on that amount of money.  
 
By the way, I am sick of seeing the MTS commercial multi times per evening - seems to be a thinly disguised ad for the NDP - and what is going on in that classroom? - The students are coloring and they don't look like kindergarten or grade 1 students to me - is that how my tax dollars are being spent? (too sarcastic?)

Maybe you are right, give the school boards a certain amount of money and tell them to make it work.  
 
The NDP want full time kindergarten, to me that's taxpayer funded baby sitting, nothing else!

Now I could be wrong on this so correct me it I am, but to my knowledge teachers here in Brandon get paid 12 months out of the year, yet they only work for 10 months and a few days in the summer getting their classroom ready for the upcoming year. Now my mom is a teacher in the Rolling River School Division and only gets paid for 10 months out of the year and has to put money away over those 10 months for the summer and still makes a very good living. So my question is why are Brandon teachers getting paid for two months when they aren't working? The division could save a lot of money right there.

They probably are not paid for 12 months. From family teaching if you want paid for 12 months your salary is spread over that period instead of 10 months allowing less per payday but constant over the year.

glad you were able to identify the silly MTS ad as nothing more than union propaganda. I hope others are able to see what you saw.  
 
But I heard Manitoba Grade 8 students rank first in the nation in colouring prowess.
