Yay!!! FINALLY getting the lights!!!!!

Dumbest idea ever. Now park will be backed up very similar to Victoria avenue. Not to mention flow of traffic moves much faster with stop signs than lights on smaller streets like park

Just because a bunch of people cant seem to read signs and figure out which lane to be in or how to work a 4 way stop we need lights? That should back up traffic nicely!

Will be interesting to see how the timings are set, if they use sensors, and how it all effects flow. Sometimes after an event at the Keystone 13th can get crazy, other times Park is very congested. Other thing I'd be curious to know is the effect on traffic of removing a required stop/start for every vehicle that flows through the intersection at a 4-way. In terms of how many vehicles flow through over a period of time, how does that compare to holding up traffic for a light cycle in either direction?

I doubt the city would put traffic lights to make the traffic way worse but why not wait and see before calling it stupid idea.

Waste of money! that area will be congested for sure!

So on my way to work at 6am, I will have a red light or I will have a green light. I'll be early for work sometimes.

Point for ponder. How would folks see say 18th and Victoria flowing if it were a 4-way stop compared to lights? Is there a point where an intersection is busy enough that lights are an obvious answer and a point where not busy enough that 4-way stop is optimal?

this what many wanted? There were many threads complaining about the 4-way stop there and the congestion.

I don't travel that avenue often but I sometimes forget how busy traffic is and go that way. Then I curse at myself, lol  
 
Let's hope the lights along that avenue can be timed for thorough travelling! The city is wholly in charge of the lights on this route.

It was supposed to happen last June. Bureaucracy probably got in the way. Bureaucrats probably made the decision to start tearing into 13th and Park during the winter fair where it is a tad close to the fair grounds  
 
No matter it is getting done finally. Timed right with 10th/1st/18th it should be a traffic mover not a obstacle.

I don't see any reason why lights would cause traffic to back up at 13th St, at least any more than the lights cause traffic to back up at 10th Street. Not usually a problem, except maybe when there's a train.

If not, it is only a matter of time before someone is speeding to hit the lights and kills a kid trying to get into the play centre.  
 
I live in the area and it happened before to and older woman trying to get to "lady of the lake".

the glacier car wash is a very busy place.

4 way stops are really not that hard to figure out.

Its not the fact that people dont know how to use a 4-way, its the long line ups at the 4-way that the city is trying to avoid. Personally I think it will be an improvement. Who remembers 10th & Park when it was a 4-way? I doubt anyone would say it is worse now with lights.  
 
I would agree however that they should have waited till next week. Having those sidewalks closed during winter fair week is pretty inconvenient for foot traffic.

I would much rather have a traffic circle than a 4 way stop. Traffic actually flows much better; the problem is that many in Brandon don't actually know how traffic circles work.  

It's so excited not just traffic movement, but getting our kids safely across the intersection.

4-ways are terrible for pedestrians

You are right about the car wash. I wonder if that area 18th and park all the way down may have to have a reset.  
 
I do not mean signs. Few follow them much less see them.  
One trouble maker is at 17th. left/right/straight through from and to Wendy's needs a re look. I almost think a meridian of sorts should be studied.  
 
Leaving Wendy's right turns only. The traffic heading to Wendy's from the east could be provided with a narrow turn but I am not sure if that area is wide enough to prevent traffic back up.  
 
All I know is the 17th and park area is a issue. it must be one of the busiest three way intersection with no traffic controls that are decent.  
 
Passive controls like a meridian are something we should look at. It is so close to 18th that it is no easy fix.

Another light where you go from red to red - not that we have enough of them already ! If you have them timed right so you hit green to green by going no faster than 5o that be the way to do it - not like 18th going south you have to go 65 to not stop at every single light ( at least early in the morning) The lights in Brandon are timed terrible all around and I know that part of it is highways . If you want people to stop speeding disrupt traffic flow in every longer stretch is not the answer - put up radars maybe permanent ones and while you at it cameras to catch all the red light jumpers that way you only piss the people off who actually speeding - just mu thoughts .....

I for one am very happy these lights will be in place soon. If the City can sync them all along Park Avenue (city responsibility, not Provincial). When you're backed up at lunch or morning traffic, a 4-Way is not the best. I'm happy about this change.

perhaps that will be a quicker Intersection with lights. I generally avoid it-only time I do go through it is when I am going back downtown from Richmond. East/west-forget it. If lights make northbound traffic slower then I have no problem avoiding that intersection completely. Lights helped a lot at 10th/Park.

Saving grace will be that the city really only had to sync the lights along Park, since it's a fair distance down to Vic or up to Richmond.  
 
I go through that intersection regularly, so long as the city does the turning lanes correctly it'll be fine. I think on 13th st there's too much traffic turning right to have a dedicated left turn lane.

This is preposterous! Why would anyone in this city want anything to change? Haha!  
 
Especially if it meant reduced accidents, and for consideration to be taken for people trying to wash their cars? And opening up the flow of traffic for hockey games, or other main events. What nerve!  
 
I'm not sure whats more ridiculous, expecting other people to learn how to drive or watching people oblivious to how a four way stop works, trying to navigate through the intersection.  
 
I have faith in our cities traffic workers. And praise for allowing pedestrians and cyclists the ability to walk without having some big pick up truck speeding past revving their engine at them.

can anyone explain to me why the 4 way stop at 13th is such a problem, but the one on 6th is not?  
 
when a 4 way stop is used correctly your wait time should not be longer than 30 seconds.  
 
I am not saying that lights do not speed up traffic  
 
I am saying with that narrow of an avenue, traffic rolling along will increase the danger to pedestrians.  
 
the 4 way at 13th gives a break to traffic allowing things like turns into the carwash and wendys without lining up traffic behind it.

find traffic lights better than 4 way sign. On busy hours the 4 way sign would have a long line up of vehicles to take turns so with lights it clear the line.
