I took my diesel to what I thought was a reputable shop. After a month (they said it would be 10-14 days tops)and numerous ecxuses they tell me they can't get it running. (It was running when I took it there.)  
The mechanic quit, and they can have someone else MAYBE look at it in a few days.  
I need it back last week.  
What recourse do I have??

Have you tried talking to the manager? If they won't resolve it I would file a complaint. You will probably have to get it worked on somewhere else, you may even have to try taking action against the business to recoup costs occurred.....that is what I am thinking.

Lots of people know a lot about diesels. Post the info on the machine and we should be able to help you out.

I've been dealing with! He's had a ton of excuses, denies saying them...  
Don't want to publicly slam him just yet.... he still has my truck!!  
I just want it fixed! But now its sitting in his shop not running at all.  

And with who?

Is it a local business? Or a Dealership? If its a Dealership start messaging them on Twitter that usually gets the ball rolling pretty quickly.  
 
If its local... You might find it harder to deal with.

Lawyers like to talk to other lawyers. Have your lawyer give him a call requesting his representation. Once it looks like the money starts coming out of the shops pocket I'm guessing the shop will stop stalling and buying time to do something about it. It's a tough call on the right course to take. It's going to cost you, no matter what you do.

And get your truck to a dealership...I can tell you 10 different stories about this happening to us until we finally found a good mechanic...unfortunately, and others will argue but believe me, Brandon doesn't really have a non dealer option when it comes to Diesel engines. Especially newer engines.

very good, great rates...he doesn't fix anything you didn't ask him to fix and he always calls us before he does anything. The only time in 11 years that we took one of our units somewhere else was when he told us he couldn't figure out what was wrong with it...only thing is I they don't do diesel...everything else on your truck, but just not the actual Diesel engine. I can honestly say that if we hadn't found Castan we would have gone broke, that's a genuine statement. We were going through what you're going through now a couple times a month.

this does not help the original poster with their diesel issue. It's best to NOT post to the discussion forum if it's NO HELP the person inquiring! Egad.  
 
Too many people post with opinions and sidetrack the forum with very little help or advice. (like this post).

Did you have a quite from them? Did they explain what they would be doing and did you sign off on the repairs before hand? If not you have recourse. MB brought in a law a couple of years ago requiring all garages to give you a quote with prices BEFORE any work being done and you have to sign off on it. If not they are responsible for anything happening.  
Not 100% sure who to contact on this but I would start with Vehicle Standards in Brandon. If they do not look after this they will know who does and get you in contact with the appropriate people.

Manitoba brought in this new law, under NDP government - lets remember this tomorrow when we Vote. SEE, the NDP did do some good stuff for us.  
 

Depending on the issue... If you can afford to do it, contact the gentleman out in Onanole and get your truck trailered there. (I don't know the name off the top of my head but I am sure it won't be hard to find out. My boyfriend took his diesel there to get it fixed and he was extremely happy with the work.
