It would seem that there is finally going to be some development of the lot that is at the NW corner of 34th & Victoria, where Sobeys West is & where Zellers/Kmart used to be.  
 
This is long-awaited for those people who live in the west of Brandon, as the space could accommodate a significant amount of essential businesses & services.  
 
Can anyone confirm, with certain accuracy, what the plans are for this specific area?

I will believe it when it happens. As far as I know, they're still trying to attract tenants.

Is there not a billboard on the corner with the developer name and rough idea of what it is going to look like. Last I heard it was going to be divided up as a strip mall style.

Been a concept since 2014. They don't seem to be in a hurry and don't seem to be keeping up the existing parking lot at all with all the visible potholes. Residential and Commercial Developing In Brandon has really slowed down lately.

I thought the original retailer in that space (east end of the building) was K-Mart, followed by Zellers and then Fields. This link states the building was originally constructed as a Fields department store in 1971. The year of construction might be correct but can anyone confirm that Fields was there before K-Mart?

Fields was the last store in that location (other than Spirit Halloween). They used only part of the floor space.

The article states an IGA grocery store was added in 1989.  
 
What it doesn''''t state is a Loco-Mart Grocery Store was built on the west side of Kmart not long after Kmart opened and it changed to IGA well before 1989.

to say that there was never a dept store BEFORE Kmart, sorry for the confusion
