When does Brandon put houses up for auction?  
 
I see the house at the corner of Brandon ave and 1st street owes $43,526.68 in back taxesm, and only has an assessment of ~$87,000.  
 
I'm sure this property also violates some bylaws as its overgrown and boarded up.  
 
so what's the deal?

The house has been boarded up for a while now

check their website. I'm not 100% but I think it's the beginning of October. As the time gets closer, you can check the website and they list all the properties that are 24 months and more behind in taxes

I'm thinking this property should have been auctioned off long ago unless they don't actually hold any auctions.  
 
Its many years behind in taxes.

Talk to the city hall rep then?

The building itself seems to have little value (15,800) with a land value is 71,600. The one next door has a land value of 61,000 and building value of 127,000. Maybe the house on the corner has little value as it is.

I wonder why after that many years of back taxes (not the amount) did it be left to go unsold for back taxes?  
 
When Mayor Sheri. ran into issues a while back the city and media were all over it. The back taxes her family had were not very long nor high in comparison to this house. Maybe the property simply fell through some bureaucrat hole.  
 
I just hope it gets back into the tax generating mode. We need it.

It may have been up for auction and no bids. The city would be able to purchase it for the back taxes, but it may not be worth it and a liability to acquire.  
If it is not a buildable lot (eg. zoning, size, location), it may cost more to pay the back taxes and demolish the structure.

My thoughts exactly something does not add up.

Does seem odd that is was not on previous lists. As for the large amount owing, the city has the authority to add unpaid accounts to the tax bill. eg. unpaid water accounts, cost of boarding up the house, grass cutting, etc. That may account for some of it.  
Not sure the city necessarily has to take over the property. For example, if it were a contaminated site they would just be incurring a huge liability.  
Anyway, an interesting situaton, hope to hear more on it.
