I received this email this morning from the "CRA" about a tax refund I apparently have.  
 
Now, I filed my income taxes quite some time ago and I had a small amount I owed, which has also been paid. I already received my Statement from the CRA which states what I owed and what was paid.  
 
This email states I have a refund and to follow this link that's been provided to fill out the forms to receive it. I did not click on this link in case it was some type of scam. Below is what the email said:  
 
" Confirmation is required  
 
We have received your tax calculation and we have determined that you are eligible  
to receive a tax refund of 214.17$.  
 
To confirm that you want your tax to be refunded, please go to  
tax refund for individuals and submit the form.  
 
Note: A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example,  
submitting invalid records or applying after deadline.  
 
Personal information is collected under the Income Tax Act to administer tax,  
benefits, and related programs. It may also be used for any purpose related  
to the administration or enforcement of the Act such as audit, compliance and  
the payment of debts owed to the Crown. Failure to provide this information  
may result in interest payable, penalties or other actions. Under the Privacy Act,  
individuals have the right to access their personal information and request  
correction if there are errors or omissions.  
 
Please do not reply to this message. It is for your information only."  
 
When I click on the email address that this message came from its jaimaf@mobile.apple.com. That does not seem like an email address that something from the CRA would come from.  
 
Did anyone else receive this email? I will attach a picture of the email it's self.

The revenue agency uses a secure website to communicate with you.  
 
Do not go to whatever address this one sends you to. They will get you to enter information they need to do nasty stuff.

Yes, it is a scam, it has been going for a while now, just ignore.

I received a similar email advising I was eligible for a $400+ refund, follow the link, blah, blah... When I receive a refund the CRA deposits directly into my bank account and that had already happened weeks ago. The old line "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" still holds.

They're trying to get into your bank account, but NOT to deposit! I sent it to Outlook as phishing scam.

Canada Revenue Agency will not contact you via email. If it's something super important, they'll send a registered letter that you have to sign for.

They have actually on 2 different occasions sent us an email with a notification that we should go to the Gov. website to retrieve a message from them.. And NO we did not use a link. We went into the Gov. site the way we normally do.. So they do actually send emails from time to time. When we went today to the CRA site there was actually a message for my wife..

Before someone jumps my bones saying I'm wrong.. Here's the email with the wife's name X'd out.

I was just going to the CRA website. Haven't been on it for awhile. Forgot my info. Just gonna call them tomorrow. Play it safe.

As a good rule of thumb, if there's a link e:mbedded in the email that directs you somewhere, it's a scam. If you hover your cursor over the link, it will usually show the address, which is rarely anything like who it says it's from.  
 
If it's an email that tells you to go to the website without providing a link, it's often legit. As in the example above. It might use words like "go log into your account like you usually do".  
 
But if they want you to click on a link... never!

I got this email today as well, and this confirms it. Total scam. I knew my refund will be way higher anyways.

This is in response to walleye48 message about wife getting an email from CRA.  
That email you have received from CRA is legit. They ask you to log into your account to view an email they have sent to you. Most likely it is an email for your wife to give information about GST rebate, if you qualify or not and for how much.  
My sons all received the same email. Because you have to actually log into CRA on your own and use your info, they can''''t access it. Just go through the CRA direct website.

Yes, I know that it is legit.. We already went into our CRA account yesterday and retrieved the message.. And have done this before.. I was only bringing this forward to show that CRA DOES sometimes send emails to the public.

The Initial post is a scam but I to have received legit email from the CRA. The scammers are getting better with these phishing emails that I have had to question a few that I received from my bank. All it takes is a quick call to see if it is legit and /or you can forward the email to the fraud department of whomever you received the email from.

Apparently some people don't understand what they read if they actually read it !

CRA sent me an email this week requesting that I log in to my account to view an important message regarding GST. No links were in the email for security purposes.  
 
I have received them before, as well. They will never link to their website or login page.
