Wasn't involved. Just saw the article and thought it funny that some guy holds up traffic, decides to be a tough guy and gives the bird when honked at and then runs to the police just like a kindergaten kid would to his mother. What's that saying, oh yeah " if you can't stand the heat, get out if the kitchen". In other words, if you can't back up the bird then best to just wave and smile when annoyed. At least that's what "Morrie" did if you ever read the book "Tuesday's with Morrie".

I can hardly wait until the next time I am confused or slightly bewildered while driving: one of these knuckleheads will punch me out for not "moving fast enough" for them if I react to them yelling at me and blaring their horn....... SMH.

By your logic, if I gave someone the finger and they pulled out a gun and shot me, that would be OK, because I was inviting them to a fight.  
 
Assault is assault- the absence of weapons doesn't make it less assaulty. If being a jerk gives others to right to punch out said jerk just for being a jerk, where do we draw the line?  
 
Oh, that's right- it's called the law, and it's what prevents people with common sense and decency from attacking other people when they feel they've been slighted in some way.

I never said once that the accused was right to punch the flipper, let alone use lethal force. I said that instead of flipping the bird people should just smile and wave when another driver is upset at their driving ways instead if escalating the situation with an obviously unstable person. Don't you think that makes sense? Or are you of the thought that people can just go around being rude without ever getting called out. This guy was called out and if he wouldn't have flipped the bird, there would have been no assault. Next time faced with an irate driver just smile and wave everyone! Flipping the bird doesn't work well and I would wager that the flipper may never flip again!

Well if your signal is on and your stopped why would we think said driver wasn't turning right?

I'm sorry, but if I was unsure about an intersection (construction etc) and someone behind me was honking like crazy and then was in such a rush they had to swerve around me into other traffic (going by what another poster provided for details)...I might have been pissed off enough to give them a finger for their stupidity. And if they were crazy enough to leave their vehicle in the middle of traffic at the next light to come over to my vehicle and physically assault me, then you better believe I'd be calling the police. So I guess I'd be a coward by your definition!

You're on the side of the wrong person here. Making a mental driving mistake, and then flipping off someone who's being rude is not worthy of a punch in the face.  
 
The coward here is the guy who pulls up to someone at an intersection, yells in his window, throws a punch and then drives off.

Have you read over and thought about your statements before posting them here? The entire premise of your argument is flawed. You are defending the wrong person. Do you know that the victim (yes, that is absolutely the correct word) doesn't also have a business or a family to get home to? Or is it just your business/family that gets to be priority? Maybe they were lost, confused, or even simply not paying attention for whatever reason. By the sound of things (see Kirss post), there may have been a valid reason not to proceed. Even if there wasn't... you don't have to be aware of other people's reasons or understand them when these situations arise. Reporting that you have been assaulted is not "running to your mom" like a kindergarten kid would. It's kind of a legal responsibility. People have actually been killed by being punched in the face and there's no guarantee that this psychopath won't do just that next time someone pushes their buttons. You are delusional if you think that your age permits you to have such ridiculous claims on what should and should not be reported to the police. If there's a law, and that law is broken, and it's reported to the police, that's no one's fault but the perp's. Also, there were plenty of witnesses who could also have reported this to the cops had the victim not done so themselves.  
 
I don't really understand the difference between the level of insult of honking and swearing and swerving around a person when they aren't moving as fast as you'd like, and flipping someone the bird. I mean, don't they actually kind of mean the same thing? If I had to choose, I'd say the former is worse. And for the record, judging by your posts, you really don't sound like you would smile and wave at someone who pissed you off by being rude and hostile, despite your assurances and "advice" for others.  
 
I have no connection to this incident aside from getting mildly pissed off at your statements here. If you really don't have time to wait for people for as long as it takes a red light to turn green, then YOU shouldn't be driving, because you can't drive safely when you're in that much of a rush. As for the assailant, it doesn't sound like they should be allowed to drive either, given that they can't keep their s**t together at a red light or when given the finger for being, well, kind of a dick. There's an assumption that people operating motor vehicles, especially in a city, have a modicum of self-control. This is BRANDON MANITOBA. As a self-proclaimed proud Brandonite, this type of thing should not surprise you since it is really nothing new to our community. We have many old people with vision or other problems, international students, and all around bad drivers. Get used to it because this isn't going to change any time soon, regardless of how many times some semi-anonymous person tries to defend road rage and assault on ebrandon. It's good to see that I'm not the only one that thinks you're 100% backwards here. Either way, this has already taken more of my time than it deserves. You won't change, and I won't care. If you can't be reasonable, at least don't publicly broadcast your ignorance (just a bit of advice). There has not been more conformations/accidents over that whole mess.  
 
There was a nasty accident there last weekend where an ambulance was trying to get through and one car mistakenly gunned it through the red light, resulting in a t-bone - but that was a case of just panicking and making a huge mistake by the looks of it.  
 
What I am seeing a lot of at that intersection is people turning left not respecting the right turn drivers' right of way. I am seeing near misses each day where the impatient left hand drivers gun it to get in front of the right turning cars. Seriously - just because you are closer to the lane on 1st does not mean you can go first!!

Agree with the assault charge completely.... But an assault charge for what? Less than 30 seconds of no "traffic flow?" I'm pretty sure that, that less than 30 seconds, wouldn't hinder your ability to put food on the table either.  
 
If you feel you have to assault someone because of that? Someone has anger problems and needs help, to learn how to not act upon that anger.  
 
Flipping the bird means you want to fight? How childish is that? I don't care how it was back in the day, if you thought a simple middle finger meant you wanted to fight... that's just dumb.

You are right!! When I get up in the morning I should plan my daily commute to i:nclude the time restraints on everyone else who is also driving.(Sarcasm)  
If I don't want to turn I wont!!  
If you want to punch me in the face for that, thats on you, not me....  
At some point(hopefully never) road rage guy may take a fist to a gun fight, will it be worth it then, NOPE!!

Buddy must have been in a pretty big hurry! Surprised he had all that spare time to jump out in the middle of the road to punch someone in the face multiple times. I sure hope he wasn't late considering how important it was to him to assault somebody.

I am mot defending the act of violence and everybody that thinks that should re-read my posts.  
Seems to me though that most are supporting and defending the right to flip the bird to anyone that annoys you while your driving. Sorry, but I can''''t agree with any of you as being rude to people ( which I''''m not surprised by the people''''s comments here) seems to be on the increase in Brandon.  
People are bad drivers in Brandon and I get it, see it daily! I don''''t go around flipping the bird to all or even any of the other drivers! If I did though, I''''d be ready to back it up!  
The flipper, much to everyone''''s surprise here initiated the whole situation and if inly for a response of a smile and wave no assault wiuld have occured. The flipper is not innocent here as he had a cranium cramp at the wheel ( which given we all get at times), but his response to the truck driver was immature and rude and I canot support his actions and am simply dumbfounded that most posters think it''''s ok to be immature and rude while driving. The flipper escalated the situation where someone lost his marbles for a bit. Some of us lose our marbles quicker than others as some of us are better drivers than others. That''''s just the way it is! If you both lose your marbles and there''''s flipping and yelling from both sides, then you should settle your differences outdide like real men and have a beer afterwards. Otherwise, when faced with an irate driver, just wave and smile! Chances are that you won''''t lose any chicklets! This is my last post as I am only repeating myself. Safe driving everyone!

In this as in many cases actions and body language escalate the incident. If someone is in that big of hurry as the accused and the victim let him go without flipping him off shaking his head or staring him down saying obscenities. (Not saying any of these was the case) The accused would have drove on thinking the victim was an idiot the victim would have continued thinking the accused was a jerk. No issue. But the victim escalated the situation through action by flipping the bird. The accused went to a higher state of rage to where he felt the need to become physical(not saying that was right). The victim if this was the US may have been packing a gun and justifiable (maybe scared for his life shot the accused) this story would be wildly different. In Brandon at times I have had impatient drivers honk or show aggression I ignore them and am confident enough that they are wrong I do not let it faze me. Sometimes I may have been wrong and sat at a light thinking about something so in the wrong look a head and give them no satisfaction. Other times people have sat long at lights I have honked to get attention when they flip me the bird it pisses me off and raises my frustration I sometimes shake my head or something which also shows aggression the situation has never become physical I have had people in Brandon approach looking to start a confrontation but usually they back off as soon as they realize I am 6'2" and 300 lbs. If I was a little smaller it may have been physical. In this case not condoning violence but the victim is as guilty as the accused of the direction this incident went.

Well which is it?? Both charged or not?? As per timetowakeups comment shows there was a damn good reason the " big bad aggressor" punched the "victim". If these are the real occurences of the situation, I find it comical and sad how many posters were so quick to assume the aggressor was more of a victim than the victim. Just saying but if I was gus and someone slapped me plus did what they say he did in kirkcaldy. I'd say bob should be thankful that's all he got. Some people in this city that drive seriously need to pull their heads outta their asses. The driving skills are getting worse everyday here.

I'm curious as to what business was so important that they needed to attack someone to do their job. I'm also concerned for the family of this person as they have quite the temper and he thinks it is ok to be so aggressive to random people. If he is so free with himself in public, I worry about what happens behind closed doors!

That's really inappropriate don't you think assuming you don't know this individual. Might I remind you that nothing in this discussion has been confirmed except what has been reported by the police.

I agree, and I tghink its what 70`s guy was trying to say, you cant go around being a jerk and challanging people by your actions and not expect to have things happen, if the victim didnt want to fight he shouldn't have flipped the enraged guy off, escalating matters, or stopped or gotten out of his car, if he didnt do any of that then i would say the rage was completely random but in most of these cases it takes two to participate, now the guy shouldnt have punched him but the other one shouldnt have added fuel to the fire either

I find it amazing that anybody could get wound up about driving in Brandon. Seems like you can get to the other corner of town in about 12 minutes.  
 
Maybe the one good thing about this thread is that we can see how stressed out some people are, and make allowances to avoid them.  
 
To those people (and you have identified yourselves pretty clearly in this discussion) hopefully sometime in the future you will learn to relax and that the 30 seconds or 3 minutes that you are delayed in really amounts to nothing in the big picture.
