I have been hunting Pokemon with my son for two hours (aka driving my son around so he can go to all the Pokestops outside of his biking boundaries)  
Problem: The Pokestops all around Brandon are covered with empty tim hortons cups, chip bags, cigarette packets, etc.  
Solution: Whenever my son wants to go hunting, he must also bring a garbage bag. He is responsible for picking up 5 pieces of trash per Pokestop.  
I encourage you all to do the same

The school yard and sidewalk we live near has turned into a big mess in just a few days of the Pokemon Go arrival due to the mass of people sitting there all day long and leaving their garbage behind. So sad!

1.) The school yards and parks have been a mess for years.  
2.) Windy days and poor waste management are mostly to blame.  
 
This Pokemon Go app is amazing and has got the couch potatoe, gaming junkies out of the houses and walking in the streets!! My kids have been putting km's on their bikes and shoes and so far it's been great to see then excited about the outdoors again!!

To answer the op, it is good practise to clean up garbage when you come across it! Well done in that part!!

On the Brandon Pokemon groups on Facebook, people have already posted about bringing a garbage bag when we hunt or use lures at pokestops, to clean up amy garbage we see.  
 
Not all the garbage is from Pokemon players, and there are some Pokemon players who have no issues walking around with bags to clean it up, dont paint all players with the same brush.  
 
My coworkers and I eat lunch at one Pokestop, and we take everything back to worl to throw out, not just leave it there.

My friend and I walked about 4km last night with our phones in one hand and a bag in the other. We picked up the trash at every Pokestop we hit as well as along the sidewalks all along our route. Not all litter on the street is from Pokemon Go players and we are trying to clean up after ourselves

I was at the church last night after stopping at Tims for a water. Just sitting there and these 16 year old kids threw their Tim Hortons drinks on the ground and screamed something. At a CHURCH! Ruined my whole night that someone could be THAT disrespectful and just throw garbage anywhere. I picked it up and put it in the garbage right where I was sitting after they left.... redicilious...  
 
Our world is crappy enough now a days guys .... Don't make it look that way though ....

Yep, no matter what young people do (and they are not ALL young, BTW) they are looked down upon. I suspect EVERYONE who is a "perfect" adult that posts on here was also a "perfect" child/teenager.  
 
 
Either that or they have convenient memories and some misconceptions about and/or misrepresentations of themselves.

My son and I have seen and done so much since we starting playing. I didn''t know Brandon has 2 time capsules, for instance. The landmark idea for poke stops is ingenious. We talk about the historic landmarks. We are interacting. This is the best game ever!! And the age range of individuals playing is heart warming. Pokemon I believe came out in the 80's so all of those children are now in their 30's and gotta catch me all!! I love it!!

You've got to bare in mind. The parents of these 30 somethings didn't have video games to grow up on in the same way, so the 30 somethings will be growing up in their own way. We tend to have these prevalent belief systems that everyone is supposed to grow up in a certain way. And what's good for one person is good for everyone. But suppressing these desires, or choosing not to acknowledge those differences leaves us liable to go stagnant. Growth and positive change starts with the self, and can blossom into the community.  
 
We should never forget where we came from, and the things that make us happy. Are what's important to maintain. In a good way.

what difference does it make if it was at a church as opposed to anywhere else ? garbage is garbage no matter where it's tossed

Grass is green, trees grow and nature is always there. It's been around long before Pokemon and cell phones. Who knew historic landmarks were here and they are quite intriguing to children of any age?  
 
I'm glad you are interacting with a game. You sound very excited for the heart warming experience!

That its great that people are outside! Yes its a game but it gets everyone out of the house and doing something. And just to clairify it came out in the 90s. Kids and adults are enjoying the game. We drive around but only because my back is injured. We never litter and our car is proof of that lol. Classing everyone in the same group is ridiculous. People are going to litter regaurdless.

was not blaming (pokeman)as far as I could see. OP was just stating a fact that its messy out there.  
 
Good Job OP for teaching your child about the environment, respect and exercise all in one outing.  
 
Years ago when we would go to a school playground I too would make my kids pick up trash before we left. It was our way of instilling pride and appreciation for the playground and our environment.  
If more people cared it would not be so trashy.  
Nice to see some of you playing the game are taking notice and doing something about this issue.  
 
As far as the respect at a church I think it seems worse at a place like that or a government agency to not have respect.  
I own a former church along a busy road and you would not believe the things people do in that yard. no respect for it or my pride I have in taking care of the location so people can stop and enjoy their time there.  
I also try to tidy garbage along the outlying areas.  
 
All good 4-H members should also know the importance of keeping trash in the cans. many a mile spent picking up trash along the highway.  
 
good job all of us do-gooders who are trying to improve things for others to enjoy or ignore and ruin.  
 
Enjoy the fresh air, exploring the area and getting out of the house those playing this game.

For any concerned members of the public, and pokemon masters in training. A friend has organized an event on the Brandon Manitoba Pokemon Go Facebook Group Page, urging all players to go out and cleanup all the pokestops and gyms.  
 
Starting today July 23 and going on until next week. Hopes are for clean poke hunting practices to take hold within the niche, and that they expand outwardly.  
 
I'd like to urge the community at large to take part in this, or why not take it the extra step further? The entire community could have a cleanup for the entire community? Wouldn't that be a treat? I see garbage flying around all over the place.

Why doesn't everyone just chill out and realise that there will always be people who think they are entitled to do whatever they like and whereever they like. I believe everyone, not just the game players, should pick up after themselves and not expect others to do it be it garbage, pet waste, etc. I live in a small town and it isn't any better than Brandon.So, instead of complaining about every little thing,lets work together for a better community/communities. Have a great day. I know I will.
