I am wanting to rent to own a sectional couch for my house ? What's the difference between the two companies ? Interest and stuff like that ? Just looking for pros and cons to help my choice ! Thank you !

Not too sure about the interest rates now but years ago, a friend furnished his apartment by rent to own. He did not haggle on the price, he just signed on the dotted line and had a beautifully furnished apartment. After he read the contract, and did some math. He ended up paying close to double what it all was worth as he wasn't careful, and did not ask: "What 's the total final cost involved?" All he cared about was the monthly payment. You may get a good deal- just shop, take notes and compare. Walk away. Sleep on it. Come back to the best deal for you. (For me it's paying cash for good used stuff from ebrandon- to heck with payments

buy some used stuff, put what you would expect to pay every month away and then go pay cash for new furniture at a reputable store. Ask to see their contracts, read very carefully, you will end up paying way more than the product was priced at and by the time you are done paying all their charges, you will be ready for new furniture again. Those places stay in business, with all the fee's, interest that the customer pays.

Both charge you nearly double what the actual cost is. If you go to Surplus Furniture they have a no interest layaway plan. If you don't need it right away, you can do this and just pay every two weeks. You literally just pay the total; no interest or hidden charges.

I had this video running when I saw your topic. It is about cars but is very similar to the "rent to own" furniture scam.

Honestly, it's so much better to save and even buy decent, clean well priced used furniture from local people (using smart practices).  
 
I wouldn't deal with this model of business practice if they were the last business on earth.  
 
It's your decision, but do your homework first on how these businesses operate and know what you're signing. Myself, I'd not ever pay 3-4 times retail for an item I can save for.

Besides Surplus, I know KDL used to have layaway. At least with layaway you still get to pick exactly what you want even though you may have to wait for a bit. Sectionals are always coming up in the classifieds here too. Also a better option, and if the issue is used, you have to remember with places like Easyhome, etc. you may not be getting new either. I havent been in one in years but they used to rerent stuff that had been taken back from others who couldnt pay.

Yea, I''m not picky at all when it comes to new vs used furniture! The only thing that had me leaning towards renting to own was that I didn''t need a lot of money upfront ! But I like that lay away idea , it''ll give me something to work for ! Thank you everyone for your input! I''m gonna go with the lay away idea instead of paying double for a sectional!
