Does anyone know what's going in that large development of land just across the street south of Brentwood?

Has it been bought by anyone or just being prepared for a possible business?

Heard Costco but also heard Costco off the #1. From what I guess is it is another shopping mall complex going in there. Will still have to fill in a lot of the slough. With property like that it should be labeled at a green space for holding water like it currently does.

IT is called Brandon Hill Shopping Centre. It is seen on the VBJ development website: http://www.vbjdevelopments.ca/commercial-2/.

For fun and because who doesnt like a little harmless Costco speculation, I took the image of what appears to be an intended anchor tenant for the South Brandon Village development from the VBJ Developments website. I found a few Costcos in Canada that seem to have a lot of similarities, which for all I know is a co-incidence (see right-hand column... view full-sized image for best comparison).
Have to stress that this is just a fun exercise and that Costco looks like they have a few different looks for their buildings and that not all look like this. It wouldnt be hard to start punching holes in the comparison by pointing out a difference in scale of some of the elements that are shown. Then even if the image happens to have been inspired by a Costco it doesnt necessarily mean that there's intent to build one there by the land owner and the company....

it's interesting to see the comparison of the different costco location within Canada.

You can actually compare even the gas station with other costco and what is propsed by VBJ. Most of the buildings look similar.

I would assume pretty much all big box stores look the same from space. I wouldn't put too much hope in the Costco-esque shape of the projected building, because I'm sure if you compared it to other types of stores it would be similar as well.

I think you could say that in a lot of cases but I'm not sure I've seen enough to disprove in this one. When you start looking at Costcos like the ones in the pic you do start to see some common elements... to me one of the more distinctive ones being the corner entrance. This is all just fun speculation and it definitely needs a devil's advocate side to keep it honest. To help that side of the argument, would be curious if anyone could point to many big boxes that consistently would seem to have an entrance on the corner like that?

But no matter what even if one was convinced that the image was "Costco-inspired" it doesnt mean that Costco is coming or that it's coming to that spot. It could simply be that the developer needed to put in a realistic image of a big box in the drawings... and what better box to pick than the one that's had the town talking for 10+ years and counting

I can see your point about corner entrances, but it seems to me that the trend right now is to build like that generally. I can think of quite a few new constructions/renovations in Winnipeg currently that have this set-up for stand-alone buildings. I think it must make it easier to design the inside i.e. more unbroken wall.

But I agree with Adam. I think most costco looks similar to the comparisons. Also having a gas bar close to that building (like Getty said) is very comparable to the VBJ propsed plan vs Costco building currently up and already have.

Hey it took Carters/osh kosh 3 years to get here, it can happen to Costco.IMO Costco can be a reality than a dream

FWIW (and that isn't necessarily much from a Westman perspective given perpetual rumour mill and lack of hard info to substantiate) I see via the link below that Costco has plans to "expand aggressively" over the next year, opening seven new stores in Canada in fiscal year 2017. Statistically speaking, at the least that would mean that a Costco opening in Brandon is more likely in that year than any other year to date :)
