This morning on McDiarmid Drive, the barricades were moved so that the street could be swept. But the road closed signs remained. Many people drove through making it hard to get my job done. Did you know that it is still illegal to go around that sign regardless if there are barricades. Don't worry, I got lots of pictures of license plates to pass on to BPS. Hope the shortcut was worth it.

I took a right instead of a left coming out of tims this morning as I noticed the barracade was gone. I guess I will wait by the mailbox for my ticket.

So since when can a street sweeper operator issue tickets? If anybody somehow got a ticket for this fight it! Yes people are idiots but you trying to operate a piece of equipment and taking pics with your phone, sounds safe to me. You are the person in need of a ticket. Maybe the city should review you for unsafe operation. Put your phone down and do your job.

He was never saying that he issues the tickets just that he passes on the pictures to bps. Anybodys right to do so if he sees a violation. As long as he wasn't operating his equipment at the same time.

Pretty sure they said they were handing the pics of the plates to BPS? It is possible to take said pics via cell phone if they are having to stop for the people interfering with his work?  
 
To the street sweeper..sadly no one gives a shit in this city about anyone else. It's rare to find courteous drivers here at all, and when you are courteous to someone else on the roads you get bombarded by idiots who think they own them.  
Thank you for attempting to do your job, just think how many people would whine and complain if it wasnt done (have an old bat neighbour that does just that) but also complain that you're in the way when trying to do it. Lol just do your best and know not everyone is an asshat while driving ;)

I thought your not allowed to use your cell phone while operating a vehicle. So how would this hold up to BPS? unless the sweeper has a cam.

He never said the street sweeper was moving while he took the photos. You can take a picture from your vehicle as long as it in park. From a picture of a liscense plate, there's no way anyway to prove that the vehicle you were in is moving anyway. Defiantly a street sweeper that only moves 10/km when sweeping.

The road had been closed for almost a month from Almond drive to McTavish, but the work is now complete and the road was opened yesterday(sept. 2nd) morning. Also if you look at the OP post, he posted it yesterday(sept 2nd)around 11p.m.

It's not just in Brandon where people don't give a s*&t about anyone else. You make it sound like the whole world is kind and courteous except here. Definitely not the case.

Road construction and I totally agree about the moronic drivers in this town. And yes this town is worse than most as we travel around and work in different communities. You do realize the second you pass a road closed construction sign that your insurance is no longer valid right? Keep that in mind when a flagger or worker or piece of machinery tries to stop you. I've been hit by an idiot doing my job before and things didn't turn out very well for him. Just an FYI

I think the problem is a lot of drivers don't pay any attention to the signs or anything else going on around them while their driving. I thought it was funny this week when 26th and McTavish was closed and there was signs saying the road was closed a block in advance before the construction, yet the times that I drive through that area, there were people who drove right up to the signs and then just sat there clueless. Yet how hard is it to see the signs way in advance and realize the roads closed and take a different route?...it's not that hard. But apparently for some people it is.  
 
I figured it out in a second 2 blocks away.

Yeah, there's no shortage of inconsiderate and just plain dumb drivers in Brandon. Yesterday during the lunch hour, I was on Princess Ave on a green light with the intersection with 18th st. On 18th st. , a person with a Chevy Impala on the left lane was stopped in the middle of the intersection. For a couple of minutes, I couldn't go straight on Princess of the person not being smart enough to stop at the white line on 18th st. and not being observant enough to either to on the right lane or discover there's not enough room in front of him to be out of the intersection. For the record, there was room for the person to get on the right lane and at some point 'merge' back to the left lane onto the 18th st. bridge.

for drivers to watch for all the time, less is better.  
too be reading as you drive down any street. by the time you have read and processed what one sign has said you hit another, but where were your eyes while you were reading the signs, I guess maybe not on the road.  
 
seems that over the years street signs either permanent or temporary has grown exponentially.  
 
but here is a point to the poster, i don't operate a sweeper but seems to me that the right thing to do to keep your self and others safe is to replace the barricade behind you. people have been so used to the barricade that when its gone the road must be open. that was what the barricade was for in the first place.  
 
and the road closed sign just becomes another one of the hundreds of other signs we are supposed to read but maybe don't cause there are too many and they just become a blur.

I'm not sure I follow your logic. Now, I might be thinking of a different sign, but aren't the "road closed" signs the big orange ones that sit in the middle of the street? How exactly do you 'miss' seeing that sitting in the middle of the road? What exactly are you looking at to miss something you actively have to drive around to avoid? Does this sound stupid to anyone else?  
 
I'm fully behind OP here - some drivers in Brandon just have no common sense or regard for anyone but themselves.

wasnt it just a few months ago when there was a huge uproar about the "non signage" or lack of enough signs at intersections? such as 10th and park. guess no one is happy with anything anymore lol

Was working construction on a residential street a while back. Both ends of the block were barricaded and they had a huge hole in the middle of the street. Some guy in a car drove around the barricade and drove right up to the hole. He then said he had to get through. Don't know how he figured he was going to drive through. Lol

They deserve a ticket  
They would not want you interfering with their job

I wish the police would put up traffic cams in construction zones.  
60kph means nothing to car drivers.  
But to the construction workers, flag people it means everything.  
On hwy 16 near Binscarth there is a stretch of construction, 60kph signed, flaggers , highway department trucks and survey workers, gravel trucks, rock trucks, loaders, graders packers etc.  
Yet the RCMP seem to catch speeders through here almost every day.  
And not the 70kph speeder, but the over 100kph speeders.  
Thats a nice little fine.Almost a $1000 .  
I guess people just don't give a damn.  
But that worker you hit could be a close relative, a neighbor, a friends child.  
Stop and think, what would you think if it was your off spring out there doing their job.  
And if you think doing the flagger job is easy, try it out.  
You have to watch out for these idiots on the roads that seem intent on putting people lives at risk.
