What, what, what is going on with Brandon Soccer Association????

Last fall/winter, there were so many families enrolled in indoor BYSoccer, held at Westman Communications Group Place. And this fall, BYS has not DECIDED whether they will hold indoor soccer!! All other sports organizations in Brandon have had registration and begun classes!!
I understand they have hired someone new as the Executive Director and that there will be alot for that individual to learn and get used to, however, while the board is 'deciding', hundreds of families are 'waiting' for the chance to play indoor soccer.
MANY families have gone ahead and counted BSA out of their plans for their children's winter activities, and I may do the same for my children, who will be very disappointed...

Reading with interest your comments about Indoor Soccer for Kids for the coming Winter ,Its also looking like Adult Indoor may not be a go this winter .Sad the way Soccer in Brandon in general is being run ,I Coach a Mens team who play in the MMSL ,we have been playing Home fixtures in Portage mainly due to lack of decent fields here in Brandon .Despite many attempts to get all the various Soccer based parties together there always seems to be a stumbling block .The only League here in summer is a local based one played on fields that are of very poor standard and of course no indoor at all .I can never understand why there is not a drive towards getting every one together and creating some support for the future of Soccer in this City ,There are some very good Coaches in the city some of who do run private sessions but again they often have to take the programs to Portage for game time .The youth is our future and I think perhaps its time for this city to stand up and go forward by using the talent we have available Projects like the Under 18 and BU set up should have more exposure ,I realise Hockey is the first sport but Soccer is a cheaper way for Kids and Adults to stay healthy and active .

I have to admit this threw me for a loop as well. My kids both play in the BYSA (and I'd actually applied for the executive director job, and heard not a word), and I'm quite disappointed with how this year's season is failing to start.

All I can say is like any other thing- don't like it? Go volunteer on the board! I sit on too many other volunteer organizations to have the time for this one as well, but I know it really gets my goat when people complain about things, then fail to help make any changes. Last I heard, they were desperately seeking board members - and when you have volunteers who are constantly overworked because of not having enough people, things start to fall apart.

Maybe they have good reasons, maybe not. I bet you'd learn a lot more really quickly by attending the next board meeting.

This is exactly the problem.....lack of volunteers. The people expressing concern about the disappearance of soccer need to step up and fill the void. Once the program has enough support they will be able to move forward. Bryology101 hit the nail on the head in regards to the current volunteers burning out....I was a volunteer for years with both the recreational and competitive leagues and year after year it was the same small group of people doing everything. Eventually those people move on and if nobody else has stepped up in the in the meantime they are left with no one to more forward.

To bad as lots of people enjoy the game. The other interesting thing is all of the comments on the need for a field house at the keystone. Soccer was one of the groups that they targeted for its use as well as a horse show that is 10 days long. Maybe these types of happenings they will need to rethink who would use it if the soccer association is not even able to utilize the indoor facilities they have for the sport.

The city is actively involved in the Sportsplex...making hockey, skating and swimming a priority, the City is involved with the Keystone making hockey, agricultural fairs etc a priority, the ball diamonds around the city are supported by the City...one common denominator here folks...every soccer supporter and their friends should be taising this issue with your city counsellor...make some noise....complaining on ebrandon really wont do alot of good. Remember the noise the supporters of the Sportsplex made...they got involved and thank goodness saved the facility.

Thanks, everyone, for the comments regarding volunteer support. Nice.

I have supported BSA for quite a while, thanks. I have given a ton of my time, my effort, my support. I am well aware that a select group of people are the ones who give and give of their time as well.

Interesting though, don't you think, that one poster here, who obviously gets it, applied for the Executive position and DIDN'T EVEN GET A RESPONSE?? That's poor - poor organizationally & poor professionally. They won't attract good people by being irresponsible & unprofessional. It's called following through. And children are out in the world, waiting to hear if they can play indoor, with no end in sight as well.

We are to be receiving a brand new facility for soccer immediately behind the North Hill ACC campus. I hope that that will get people excited and committed to 'growing' soccer in this city. We look foreward to this facility and appreciate the men & women working very hard to make it a reality for Brandon kids, and adults.

Regarding getting a response to a posted job...most notices indicate only those candidates who will be interviwed will recieve notification. In this labour market where there are so many applicants for job postings it is way too time consuming to reply to all.

say that at LEAST 50% of this problem is the keystone & the space not being available half the time. The program gets complaints when soccer is cancelled. The Keystone regularly cancels the rental because they need it for another more profitable event or they''re storing stuff in ther & haven''t moved it yet, booking consistent practices in there is a nightmare as you may get 3 out of every 5 you book, sometimes cancelled on super short notice.

Other organizations in town are dealing with the same problems with finding places other than the Keystone to practice because you just can't get space consistently, and no one wants to pay for a program that''''s cancelled 1/2 the time.

Booking this year seems to have been the worst one in a long time for consistent renters to get their usual space, and it only looks to get worse over the winter. So unless they can come up with a plan for an alternate space, or are prepared to get a earful from parents when soccer is canceled even though they have no control over the space availability there may not be soccer.

There is however another winter soccer program that runs at the nurses residence, you may want to look into that if you were counting on indoor soccer. It normally runs Nov & Dec.

The only reason I mentioned that I'd applied for the job (I've since been successful at another similar, higher profile position, but I've given up trying to understand the way the Brandon labour market works) isn't because I feel I'm owed an answer to every resume I send out- it's more that getting *any* communication has been difficult.

The executive director position was posted for quite a few months. I'm assuming they got a good candidate, because I know a couple of excellent people who applied and also weren't contacted, and I'm hoping that means there was a real stand-out candidate. However, I do expect that when you hire a director for a year-round sports organization, they at a minimum RUN a year round sports program. I don't really get the point of the position otherwise.

Indoor Soccer Academy

Brandon Youth Soccer Association announces an exciting NEW - INDOOR SOCCER ACADEMY for the 2016/17 season!!!!
This upcoming indoor season for Brandon Youth Soccer will see lots of kids, having fun, learning about soccer, honing their skills, getting exercise, interacting with coaches and assistant coaches, and kicking up their social skills!!!
Groups will be arranged by age and will be assigned a 1 ½ hour time slot once a week!! Of course, our little ones, U6 (ages 4,5 and 6), U8 and U10, will be given the earlier time slots of 6:00-7:30 pm, while the U12, U14 and U16 will play the 8:00-9:30 time slots.
We have opened up registrations on-line on our website.
