For people with lead in their water... has anyone taken advantage of the city`s offer of 100 dollars towards installing a water filter? Just curious as to what to do? Not sure that it`s worth the cost of calling in a plumber for installation?  
 
Does anyone know how long the filter lasts before having to purchase a new one? How about the cost of the filtration system itself?  
 
I`m thinking after all these years drinking the water I`m screwed anyway.

I've started looking in to it. Found a filter at Home Hardware that meets the criteria but its $160 plus the filters. I would install it myself, but for those who can't, I would think it would be a minimum $100 for installation. Thinking of maybe getting a pitcher for the fridge and then using the rest of the $100 city credit for filters for it.

JackAzz but I think the city only pays the 100 if you install the system under the sink? Is there a water pitcher system that filters lead? Silly me, all these years I've been using Brita and thinking all was good.

Refridgerator pitchers are specifically listed as an option that qualifies for the rebate. It must by an ANSI 53 filter. I haven't looked to see if anywhere in town carries them, but they are available on-line.

Brita water filter that you can buy just about anywhere qualify for the rebate. I bought $100 worth of filters for the refrigerator pitcher that I already had. Took the steps outlined by the City and submitted my application. Got my $100 cheque today.

about Brita states that the filters do not remove lead from the water but the Brita is allowed from the city's point of view?

They are certified to the standards specified by the city. ANSI 42 and 53 if I remember correctly.

Any of the Brita sites I have been on [b]do not[/b] show the Brita pitcher filters as being able to reduce lead. Only the faucet filter systems are said to be able to reduce lead levels in water.  
 
Somewhere in all this, something is wrong. Either Brita needs to update their information or the City needs to update their requirements.  
 
The whole idea behind this program is to help people reduce the lead levels in the water they consume. [b]If[/b] the Brita information I've seen is accurate then payment to Brandon citizens for the purchase of pitcher filters does nothing toward that goal.
