Dollarama? do we really need 9000 sq. feet of dollar store quality merchandise?

Based on how crazy busy the newest Dollarama on 18th usually is, I'd say yes  
 
Will be interesting to see if they're simply relocating that store already or if there'll be two fairly close together.

We don't need more dollar stores we already have a 4 here. They need to add more clothing stores. Not a gym, food, dollar store, and moving sobeys right across the street. They could have expanded with many more stores, or put something like an old navy where target was/sobeys is going so there was a bigger clothing store for both women men and children. I really think the mall could have done a lot better for selecting places

The mall has to take what it gets. A lot of bigger stores, the Old Navy's of the world for example, likely don't want to be in a market as small as Brandon.

Construction is underway at the former Safeway space in Shoppers Mall, Brandon. A binding commitment is in place for 26,000 square feet with GoodLife Fitness and an additional 9,000 square feet has now been leased to Dollarama. This leaves a small portion of CRU space with active leasing interest. Prior to construction completion, we will have commitments on 85% of this space.

Good grief....another dollar store?!? I always hear that Westman is known to be cheap....but seriously?? Lol

Old Navy, Chapters, HMV, Toys R Us, London Drug, and more clothing stores...I know it's probably wishful thinking. I would much rather stay in Brandon to do my shopping but the choices are getting more and more limited.

Parking and getting there(coral centre) is a hassle at the locations we have. This new one will do well. People who browse. My parking thinking may be dated though.  
I can see the shoppers mall Parking on the North side once the stand alone food joints fire up may be a hassle. Especially at xmas. I hope the south side stays normal.

the mall doesn't select tenants/stores so how is the fault of the Shopper's Mall? It's not as simple as the mall can just "put" an Old Navy store into an available space.

It's okay just bring back our mall,  
I am all in bring Bussy back to home!  
I would love to see some extra business all around.  
Would rather see some bigger business but we will receive what we can get

We don't need another stupid dollar store....honestly this is really starting to get rediculous already.....we need more clothing stores especially for men (specifically for bigger sizes) & teenagers, clothing for petite women and how about a lingerie store that specializes in Bra's etc. For older women.....Walmart sucks when it comes to Bra selections etc.

That's ridiculous!!  
 
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy dollar stores for certain things but a lot of stuff is just cheap, junk that you have to keep on buying cuz it breaks. It's better to save up and buy things of higher quality. Dollar stores sell disposable cheap items that will only typically last one season.  
 
Brandon is not so big that any of our current locations make it hard to get too via bus, taxi, walking, driving no matter where you live  
 
If we had other options to shop at, then by all means, bring in 100 dollar stores if you want but at this time, there are so many other options that people would like to see.

I always hear people commenting that we need something new, and they have a whole list of businesses that they would like to see. Now I'm not the brightest g person when it comes to business, but if I was an executive for a company I would look at certain things before building in a new area. The first thing I would look at would be median income for the area as compared to existing areas I was operating in, next factor would be income available to spend after things like housing costs, automobile costs , energy costs and taxes, I would also look at competition in the area from business that would be the same as my business, I would also look at the number of potential customers if I was trying to sell a top line product. New is nice, but business cannot run on the novelty idea, and novelty usually has a three to five year time frame, or less in some instances, so it means you don't take the chance. A lot of things on people's wish lists as far as new businesses are concerned are just that, they are wishes.

case from the dollar store that I guard with my life, lol, it is still going strong and the `fancy one` that I paid 13 bucks for from a department store broke within a month.  
 
We could use another department store, not everyone likes shopping up on the hill.

love to see any of these as well - however, in larger centres these are stores I've noticed that haven't really went into mall locations lately. They are often more typically in 'box store' malls. HMV would be one of the few that I visit in shopping malls anymore.

Everyone has to realize clothing retail is very very hard and you can see for yourself clothing retailers have a shelf life. Clothing retail is going ONLINE, but the stuff you get at Dollarama is not - multiple small ticket items never go out of style for brick and mortar stores. This is a sure bet for the mall. Unless the mall get greedy and one day force Dollarama out with a rent hike, I think they'll be there a long time.

What Brandon needs is a maternity store! There is no where to buy maternity clothes in this city anymore.

I would die for this store to come to Brandon! I miss having a CD/DVD/Collectible store around.  
 
When I do manage to get to one i usually end up spending around 300$ on movies and cds.

Off topic, I know, but the Unique Uniform Shop on Park and 13th sells maternity clothing. I bought a pair of really comfortable jeans, some leggings, a t-shirt, and a couple nursing tops there.

However I have seen plenty of people with deep pockets who shop at the dollar stores too!!

I'm glad that we're getting another one. The 18th street location has impossible parking, and the corral center one is always busy. Shows people are going there.  
 
I agree that some of it is total garbage that doesn't last, but I love that I can get name brand cleaning supplies at half the price of a grocery store!

Guess if any want's an Old Navy store they can contact GAP Inc. and try to get a franchise. But by the looks of it, it's tough.

This is the same with many of the other stores people want. You either have to buy a franchise after following all of the requirements or it's the company that decides where it will setup a location.  
 
These companies do their research of possible locations. If a place doesn't fit their criteria, they won't open a store.

usually these type of companies do not franchise to one individual. They need a number of investors. To get number of investors in Brandon will never happen. It would to be outsourced.(ie. Winnipeg)  
 
People that want an old navy should email them and comment on bringing an old navy to Brandon.

Income levels are a consideration but our concept crosses all demographic profiles.

So, having too many dollar stores is a problem, but then having a london drugs across the street from shoppers drug mart makes sense somehow.  
 
I think it was summed up best in saying that the local market would not support these types of new additions.  
 
Brandon is inherently full of cheap skates. And people who want to eat well. We need cheap stores, and fine dining. This is it.  
 
As far as clothing and whatnot goes for me. I have started to do my shopping online. I get fashions that aren't available anywhere around here. And save alot of money. Fortunately for me, I'm not in a big rush to recieve the instant gratification of in store shopping. And enjoy the anticipation, plus. I tend to time out my purchases for when I would need them. Like my new $50 parka.
