The product assortment is considerably different than what is offered at Shoppers. While there are the basic items you would expect to see at a drug store, there is also a good assortment of small appliances, electronics, and home décor. There are also a variety of food products not generally offered at other stores.  
 
Considering there is only 1 London Drugs location in a city the size of Winnipeg, I doubt one would open in Brandon. Too bad...it is a great store.

It's really too bad that Brandon can't get more new stores. Is anyone else tired of the fact that the mall caters to jewelry lovers, or cell phone aficionados?? Honestly I'd rather go to Winnipeg as there is more selection store wise.  
 
And we have too many damned restaurants already!

I don't get what people's issue is with another dollar store?  
 
There are many items that I can only find at the dollar store. Not to mention the cost savings.  
 
I say all the power to them. Another store will create new jobs in Brandon and generate extra business for other mall stores, as people may potentially shop at other stores as well.

I like the idea that they are opening another store. I just hope that they don't close one of the existing stores, especially the one at the Corral Centre. As for getting in and out of the Corral Centre, I don't have any problem. Some people may feel that they should be able to get through in one minute or less, but need to realize that it's a parking lot and not a freeway. There are an awful lot of impatient people around, compared to just twenty years ago.  
 
I was in one of the Dollarama stores a few days ago looking for a certain item to find that they had run out. This is one benefit to having two or more stores, if one runs out the other one(s) may still have some in stock. Besides, don't you get sick of hearing people refer to Brandon as a "one horse town"?  
 
If some people don't want another dollar store they don't have to shop in it. It's not like someone is putting a gun to their head and forcing them to go there. For the rest of us, it's nice to have a store where we can get good deals on everyday items.  
 
Parking at the Shoppers Mall could be getting a bit tight, especially after they build those restaurants on the parking lot. The fact that Sobeys is reducing the size of the old Zellers store will possibly free up a few parking spaces, but I personally think that that mall has reached it's limit for adding new store space, unless they consider adding a second level instead of expanding outward.

I've seen this far too often as well, and it almost always goes the same way:  
 
- People clamor for a new big name/high end store  
 
- Brandon gets said store or something similar  
 
- about 3-6 months after the novelty wears off, people whine that it's too expensive and that they can just get the merchandise cheaper at Wal-Mart/Dollar Store/etc, and stop shopping there  
 
- Store goes out of business  
 
- Cycle repeats

Zellers, Target...had anything and everything you could possibly need! Like a mall within a mall...now all gone. I am glad that the extra space is being used for more shopping regardless of what the store is, at least it isn't looking like the gallery and wasting away. I prefer to buy wrapping paper and gift bags for a bargain rather than paying just as much as the gift itself elsewhere. Just saying.

The greeting cards, napkins, wrapping paper and gift bags are all Hallmark products.

Tissue paper, wrapping paper, bags etc are actually sometimes cheaper at Walmart They have $1 section  
 
A friend told me that shoppers drug mart is rumoured to be moving over to the mall too

I personally really miss the Dollar Stores that used to be in both the malls.......

is great! Love the dollar stores and the one on 18th is always super busy and no parking.

I do shop at dollarama more than the mall, probably at least once a week, I only go the mall if I have to or Christmas, a dollarama will be convenient & get me in the mall.

I think everyone here is underestimating what Shoppers Mall is trying to do. By adding the large sobeys location, the new food locations, the addition of dollarama and a very well known gym company (GoodLife) they are making shoppers Mall more attractive for the businesses everyone else wants. (Like Old Navy)  
 
The idea is, boost the traffic. If the traffic is there, other companies will want to put themselves into the mall. Good food establishments like Fionn's and Harvey's are high traffic, and so is sobeys. Dollarama is ALWAYS packed, and honestly I love shopping there. It'll be great to have one in the mall!  
 
Stop thinking what you want and what is needed.

I wouldn't hold your breath for HMV. Considering it's in receivership and closing all of its stores by April.

Bigger dollarama? I'm in! If it means more stuff! I shop at both frequently and yes they are always packed! It's hard to find parking at the new one most days, so this will be nice! It's definitely a reason to go into the mall which I rarely do anymore!

That HMV will be sticking around. Still highly doubt Brandon will be put on the list for a new location when it's a struggle to keep the current locations open.

Still no confirmation that I've seen from Dollarama re what officially would have to be referred to as a "suspected" new store coming to the mall based on the info above.  
 
Re some comments earlier in this thread that there is enough Dollarama, the trend nationally seems to be that management and shareholders disagree. I see at the link below that the company has plans to expand their footprint more than 50% with as many as more than 600 new stores long-term including 60-70 this year:

It would be nice to have more clothing stores in the mall or in Brandon for that matter....but it is what it is...my daughter likes the dollar stores...let it be

For an HMV but got I miss having a decent selection of music and movies! Walmart just doesn't cut it for me in that department.

The mall already has 10 female clothing stores, 1 children's store, 1 men's store, 5 unisex.  
 
Then there's already a multitude of others in Brandon.

If used an Old Navy....if Cancun Mexico can get a brand new huge and I mean huge Old Navy at Playa Del Carmen, I don't understand why Brandon couldn't get one....it is just rediculous that all we ever get are these types of stores here....our city council sure aren't enticing any big stores to come to Brandon period....all we ever see are restaurants coming....it's really starting to get annoying already....just my opinion...feel free to bash me!

Not intending to "bash" but Playa Del Carmen is 3.5x the population of Brandon with approximately 184,000 people.

But I doubt if the people in Mexico can afford the prices that I saw in the Old Navy store plus when I was in there all I seen were tourists....so I'm sure the Old Navy is geared more the tourists rather than their own people....Playa Del Carmen is full of tourists except for the Mexican Vendors that sell you the same crap at each Vendor Shop. One Mexican lady we talked to said she took her kids to McDonalds to eat one time for a treat and she said it was very expensive for her to take them there for lunch or supper....so that is my stance on your reply of the Mexican population versus ours.

an Old Navy or GAP store, you can go through the process to purchase the a franchising licence.

But like I said back in November, it's not easy. And these companies do their research before allowing their franchise to be built in a city. But this only applies for countries other than US, Canada, Japan, UK where the have company owned stores.
