Beanbag rounds & white cube van
2/14/2017 at 10:37 PM
That "white cube van" is the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) truck. It houses most of the equipment the TRU uses, including the robot that deployed a loud speaker in front of the house earlier in the day. It has lights and sirens, although the lights are hard to spot for most people. I was on scene from about 12:30pm, until it ended around 3:30-4pm, and they apparently fired beanbag rounds towards the house. I was filming and taking pictures from about 24th and Lorne Ave, when the Tactical Response Unit officers made their way towards the house. They fired at least 4 rounds of beanbags, which sounded like gunshots at first, towards the house. On the third rush towards the house, they made the final push and stormed in. The reason I know it was beanbag rounds is because I heard an officer telling a firefighter/paramedic that "he took a beanbag round". I have seen the TRU use those paintball guns before (White Swan Trailer Courts Standoff and Sobeys Parking Lot Standoff), but I never saw any of the officers carrying them today. Only the beanbag gun, and normal M4 carbine rifles.
