Anyone know when and where a schedule for this years fair

What would you like to see different?

Maybe move things around, have different displays, add other attractions maybe. As a kid I remember walking through a section with rabbits, birds etc that were given ribbons for various reasons. There was the big egg display with ribbons as well. I remember a year they had an aquarium display. We went to Regina's fair once and they had a whole section for sheep judging, shearing contests, herding competition etc.  
 
We have been going to the fair for 30plus years, it's getting so repetitive

There is no actual schedule on their website.

Well registration I see for events that I looked at cut off was the 17th of Feb. That is only 3 business days ago. Registration for a kids thing I looked at was Feb.26 was cut off. Now unless they had cut off a month ago why would they make a schedule before they even know how many participants they have? Pretty sure they mentioned what dates they have the events, just not times.

and a lot can change or needs to be finalized. I know they are finalizing the Ag Education Stage schedule right now...they will have it posted as soon as it's possible.  
 
And if you want a chance to volunteer and see some of the behind the scenes, it gets you a pass in. I'm sure suggestions would be welcome for changes or demo ideas.  
 
 
Remember most of those displays are reused as it would cost so much to replace often. The basics are the same but they do try to change up entertainment and such. They have had sheep shearing at the Ag Stage, cattle clipping etc. These demos are done by volunteers...and it's hard for a lot of people/farmers especially...to get a week off unpaid to be there every day.

I get things need volunteer work. But is the farmers were coming with their livestock to show them and there was a chance to win prize money it would be a draw would it not. Maybe there isn't the desire to show animals here like there is in Regina. It was a big section with tons of farmers and tons of livestock. Just as much attention went into their sheep as people put into their horses in Brandon.

but where are they going to get all the extra prize money to draw the sheep and other livestock? Do you have any idea of what it costs to take an animal to the fair and show for a week and what the actual pay out is?  
 
Exibitors are looking at a few hundred dollars to have their horse on the grounds before even entering any show classes. It's very expensive to compete at the fair and the prize money isn't always worth it. Not sure how you expect the fair to come up with even more prize money for all the livestock competitions.

I totally get it. We used to have a large sheep operation and now have a few animals. I don't pretend to know all the work that goes into organizing events at the fair. All I know is when we went to the Regina fair the sheep/goat area was huge! It was a big draw for a lot of farmers and onlookers. It was just something I thought was very cool. It was years ago though so no idea if they still do.  
 
Bottom line is that I think it's time to add some different attractions/exhibits. A lot of people I have talked to are also saying - same old same old and not going. We will go regardless but it sure would be nice for some new things.

As for prize money - do the people not pay an entry fee to enter. Would that not cover any prize money? Anyways it's whatever. I was asked what I would like to see as changes and that is my opinion.

Not sure for the fair exactly how it all is divided out...but they have to pay judges for their time, accomodation & travel, meals....the facility has to be paid for...course designers, stewards (they make sure rules are followed), ribbons & of course prize money...the entry fee would not cover all of these (also separate hunter judge & jumper judge)...and that's just the light horse classes...sponsors are the main source of income...and they are very hard to get...harder every year for all horse events/disciplines.  
 
As for suggestions, as I've said, I'm sure they would love ideas (not sure if they can accommodate them all) if you were to forward them on to the Provincial Exhibition directly (via Facebook or website - not sure if they follow on here especially this time of year)  
 
Also the goat/sheep showing part of the industry is very small in MB much higher in SK so that would be part of it...also in this day and age, biosecurity is another issue. That is why we don't take our goats to be on display anymore...risk of bringing disease home. And again, time & money or lack of! makes it hard to take animals in to show or even display. Bio security is probably the main reason a lot of animals aren't on display or shown anymore...thinking of the rabbit & fancy bird show that used to be there... (Lots of horses get sick from being there every year)  
 
I go mainly to visit with friends that I haven't seen in awhile and my son likes to see the animals (even tho we have most of them at home). I used to enjoy having goats there to help educate people & think the fair is great for ag education altho some of it I'd like to see changed as well. I've passed along ideas/suggestions via Facebook private messages & they do read them.

The OP asked for a schedule. And clearly there isn't one yet.  
 
On the other hand, why even have a schedule? When its the same thing year after year after year.

yes!!! whats that 20 years in a row now?

I honestly can't stand the super dogs anymore! I cringe when they come out BUT my daughter loves them so we just deal with it. If you wait long enough in the main arena you are bound to catch 2-3 shows lol

I asked one time why they didnt bring back such n such entertainment.  
They replied with "We dont like to bring the same acts back 2 years in a row"

Smaller kids on the other hand...seem to like it year after year.

Last year they brought Toopy and Binoo and that was the highlight for us! Unfortunately Brandon in general doesn't offer enough for kids, so even if the events that DO come are a bit dry and over done, we still always attend. There is only so much "fun" that comes to Brandon to entertain us.

I didn''t make my money back on the "prize money."  
 
I made it back (and then some!) when I sold my steers at Wednesday night sale.  
 
Placing in the classes was important, it determined your place in the sale, and what kind of price you got.  
 
 
As for year after year acts, the kids love the Superdogs, let the kids have them!  
 
I hope the mini chuckwagon races will be part of the show.
