I would like to get some info about opening a daycare centre in Brandon . I tried google it but nothing showed up. I can go to Provential building for some info I guess but before doing that I was wondering if people who have a day care centre can give me some advise. I am on the very early stage so my first question is if I should consider to open a day care centre? Is group day care same as a day care centre?  
Can it be operated from a home that I do not live there?  
Does Brandon need one?  
Do parents prefer day care centre or home day care for their child?  
What are regulations and obstacles?  
Any anything else that you think I should consider.

I was under the impression (could be completely wrong) that all centre's are government run and you can't just open a center. I know someone in another community who tried doing what you are wanting and eventually got shut down. Check with the people at the provincial building and see

I don't see why you couldn't rent a space to run a licensed daycare. It would be no different than getting your license to run daycare out of your home. Although, I'm not sure that it would be worth it to have to pay rent for a place as part of your operating costs. Why not just open a home daycare? If you are wanting a separate space that is not your home, do you have a basement that could be used just as daycare space and nothing else? I do know of one person who did this. They lived upstairs, and used their basement as the daycare area, that way she did not have kids just in her own personal living space all the time. The basement area would just have to meet licensing requirements if that is the route that you want to go.

Are you an ECE? I know that one stipulation is that a daycare centre has to have at least one ECE and enough staff to satisfy the staff/child ratio requirement (because daycare centres can have more kids). Also there are many strict requirements to pass the building and fire regulations. They really make it almost impossible to get licensed anymore...which is why there is a shortage of licensed daycare spots.

Centres must have an ECE III and homes, whether licensed or private, must be lived in.
