We live up off Braecrest and behind our house there are large trees that overhang into our backyard. The trees are on city property and I am curious to what the rule/by-laws are to trim or cut off the branches that overhang into our yard.  
 
We have a garden and ever year they bud and drop seedlings and cause havoc on the garden.  
 
Any info would be appreciated.

you can trim the tree branches that hang in your yard and on your property.

You could contact either the City of Brandon parks department or bylaw department and tell them the situation and see what they say. Contact info is on the cities website or phone book. You could also just cut the trees back so there not hanging on your property.  
 
I know from experience the city dosent like trees on private property hanging onto city property. Should be no different if it's the other way around.

cut the limbs that overhang on your property.

Keep in mind that trimming at the property line will NOT eliminates seeds and leaves from entering your yard. The wind blows around here.

I have similar issue, but easier said than done as the trees are 2-3 stories tall...I''''d need a bucket truck. Too bad it doesn't require the tree owner to trim them.  
 
 
Not sure if it is here, but I know some other places even have a stupid bylaw that you can't even damage the roots on your side...like say your driveway gets cracked and a root pops through...if you cut it and the tree dies, you're responsible.
