I can't really say that I am surprised that the ethics commissioner found that Toews violated the guidelines. Toews was also found guilty of violating Manitoba's Election Act.

Toews also wanted to build additional prisons to house those who committed unreported crimes. He never did explain how someone would be convicted and sentenced for a crime that was never reported.  
 
Toews wanted others to be held to high standards of behaviour. Sadly, he did not always expect the same of himself.  
 
He should be removed as a judge. How can he rule on the acts, judgement and ethics of others when his are not up to par ?

People from all political parties routinely break ethics guidelines, made the taxpayer pay $125,000 (and counting) for a little vacation to the Bahamas et al and get away with it. If there's no real punishment for people regardless of political affiliation for those break ethics guidelines etc. , why have the rules in the first place? I don't want another case the person gets removed, fined etc. only because Toews being a former Conservative and just to see another Liberal or NDP break an ethics guideline etc. and have zero consequences for their actions.
