I was a member for almost 35 years and retired,moved out of Bdn and downsized to one bank that had a branch in my community.Asked about my shares and they said no..I think you pretty well have to die to get it.But I agree with others,they are not the credit union they used to be..very,very slow to catch up with banking technology.Too bad..I always use to recommend them but wouldn't now.

That is so weird ... that we got two opposite answers. You were told to notify payroll and employers and I was told not to notify ... Frustrating! Will talk to Westoba CU again

I did live chat with Westoba on their website Friday afternoon and was told that I did not need to get new cheques and did not need to notify payroll, because my old account and my new account would all be on my file and could be cross referenced-that I can tell them when I change to another branch and they will change my payroll deposits. I kept screenshots of that conversation! So, guess I will find out which is right when I go in to move my account to a different branch.

Talked to them this morning and I was told you only need to notify payroll if you're making a new deposit. You do not have to notify payroll because they will transfer my money to a new account number because they have a back up system. I just changed this branch to 34th

Teleservice and Westoba need to get their answers straight because I just called the 34th branch and I was told that I need to notify payroll for changing account numbers. They're confusing quite a few people and even I'm confused ..... What is going on?

For the amount of effort it takes to inform your HR department of a branch change for payroll I would do it rather than hopes of the bank not screwing up your deposit.

This is only relevant if you are not switching to another financial institution.

Even if Westoba decides to close the 10th & Princess location, they could easily find a spot in the downtown for a smaller office with teller service and ATMs. We need this service downtown.

We don't 'need' Westoba downtown-you may want them there but it's not like they are the only FI in the area and they are leaving downtown with no options. To me this is a good business decision as 4 branches in one city is excessive.  
There are many options for people downtown who are not happy with this decision and I'm sure Westoba took this into consideration when making the decision.

I think it is a business mistake for Westoba to leave the downtown area. Brandon University is going to have a major presence right across the street and Westoba will lose out on that business.  
 
I take your point about other financial institutions in the area. There have been several posts suggesting that Crocus Credit Union might fill this need.  
 
All the other banks (with the exception of National) have a presence downtown. It seems odd to me that Westoba, with all its emphasis on community, is not supporting our downtown.

Vanguard and Sunrise Credit Unions do not have branches downtown  
And I don't believe location is a big factor for students. I believe students want the opportunity to bank online and very seldom go into a branch.  
And again, I'm sure Westoba took all this into consideration with their decision.

It doesn't matter which branch they close someone will complain. Downtown does make the most sense as access seems much better at the other locations. Really looking at google maps from downtown to the branch on 1st was less than 2km away or 11 minutes of walking.

I use on-line banking at Westoba but I also use the teller service. There are some things that online banking, or ATMs, cannot do.  
 
If you disagree with this decision by Westoba, let them know. It is not too late for them to change their minds - especially if WCU members speak out.

Why would they change their mind? The board has approved this decision and staff and members all know about it? Why would they reverse their decision when I'm sure it was a very hard decision to make in the first place?  
They know people are going to change FIs because of this - why would people letting them know what they already know change their decision???
