Why is the provincial government reducing the amount of money for some people (low income) and not doing the same for people on social assistance?  
 
I know people are suffering because of high prices etc. but why do people on SA still get to keep the same amount for rent?  
 
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't certain goods paid for SA clients? Like meds. glasses, dental work and household items?  
 
But someone who is struggling to pay their own way gets punished?  
 
I'm just not understanding this change? Punishing hard working people who can't get ahead of the game.

I was thinking the same thing johnbisonbear. Nothing against sa recipients but the fact they've got the dental, script and eye coverage even if basic is way more than I and many have working. The drop in ra was huge and I can't imagine how some will be moderately ok with such a drastic drop in assistance. Sad the way the govt decides things that's for sure.

I know a few ppl that are in the early 20s that are perfect able to work that are on SA but they rather play video games all day long and smoke pot instead of doing what they should do. This ppl are getting there rent paid in full and given a allowance to buy food.  
 
This system is there for certain ppl but we have perfectly healthy 20 year olds on welfare bc they rather play games then work. Maybe if they clean this case up there will be money for those that really need it and we have more ppl working to earn a living instead of living off the tax payers hard earned money

what about the 'lifers'?

I have one word for you as to why there is a reduction in this service... Conservatives. I am a single parent and going to university to better our lives, I'm on student loans, not EIA and my Rent Assist is being decreased. I got a letter saying so. It's Pallister. We can thank him.

we can for the lifers that live off the government and there many baby daddies. taking advantage of the system and making the hard earning ppl work harder to make ends meat for them and they ppl they care about, so they can drink there booze and smoke there pot and play vids while not lifting a single to help the cause.

So far Pallister has attacked most of the vulnerable low income people in this province. From seniors, to students, to the sick. He has closed emergency rooms, looking to privatize portions of home care, reducing rent for our low income families. All of these people that he is hurting or their family members need to remember this at election time. He must set up at night and wonder what he can do next to hurt these people.

My family (2 adults, 3 kids) live in Manitoba housing, however we are working, but it's still hard to meet all bills once bill time comes....we have to budget out all the "extras", like tv, phone, any eating out, we weren't even able to go to the fair this summer as there wasn't enough in the "free spend" account.... so where is this extra money coming from to pay for a rent hike?.... I'm quite upset at this, as I have neighbors who are on welfare , neither parent wants to (nor has to ) work, they have a mini herd of kids, and their yard is scattered with stuff(toys,fire pits, 2 brand new BBQs), yet because we are trying to move forward, missing my kids bed times most every day, and we are scrapping by with absolutely no benefits (dental,eye,etc), I'm now having to muster up more money each month, yet my dear neighbors who do nothing all day get to live the way they are because they are on welfare?! This isn't right... how does one even move forward in life? My rent already would be cheaper if I had a mortgage on a small house...yet how would I get that house when my 60$ I'm trying to put into my savings each month, now has to be put toward rent.... no wonder the houses are on such a long waiting list, no one can afford to move out! Id never do it(I'm trying to instil hard work morals in my children) but I'd be way more ahead if i quit work, went on full welfare, and stayed home for years to come...this is all just rubbish..,Rant over

yes agree I know some people even one in disability say they could work but ah no. They rather have a cheque and have days off every day.  
Some abuse and use the system to easy. Starting at young age people need to learn to be responsible on their budget expenses instead of leaning on others.

It all about being taught how to work hard and I am afraid of the future. More and more kids are being raised that it is ok to now work, the government will just give us money to live. Maybe this parents don't see it that way cause it not directly being said but thinks are learned and taught a lot louder through action.  
 
I am pro helping ppl and that no one should be homeless, so here though. Stop giving them money, instead things that are important like milk and bread. stuff like that. not money cause they will buy beer, pot, toys, bbq, ps4, computers and many other stuff that should be earned and worked for. If you are on welfare you should not be using any of that money for fun it there to help you get through the day and get out of welfare. I am sure you can live without a all that other stuff.

Umm, those extras is what is known as discretionary spending. You might try to show some discretion and pay your rent, rather than rely on the taxpayer to fund this.

that you are quoting! It states that the even though the person is WORKING they still have a hard time paying the bills and will find the increase in their rent difficult. What part don't you understand?

Yeah you might want to reread my post. I am saying I have no "extras" like cable, tv, phone etc as I need to have money to pay rent. Tax payers are not paying my entire rent for me while I sit on Facebook and watch Netflix all day. I have a job, but still find it difficult to make ends meet, even with NO extras....
