Don't Use Cable Locks, They're Easy To Cut
6/26/2017 at 8:22 PM
Most cable locks are easy to cut through using ordinary cable or bolt cutters. I have a heavy reinforced chain, a Kryptonite chain: it is probably one of the few bullet proof solutions out there.
I had an attempt on that chain, probably the same group of thieves: they were not able to cut the lock.
But you can tell that they tried by the cut marks on heavy duty anodized lock. If they had big enough sheers they would have stolen my bike, but it would have taken a long time for them to breach my chain.
You'll see that the cops rarely care: you'll wait for months for them to finally investigate. Too often, these stolen bike reports get buried with other "minor theft" complaints.
Bikes can be traced, but it's a pain. So, don't use cable locks or your bike is a bye bye.
