Brandon Airport. Air Canada flight to Winnipeg this AM?

Out of Curiosity, does anyone know what was going on at the airport earlier? Flightradar24 shows that Air Canada operated 2 flights to Winnipeg this morning.

Perhaps a glitch in their system? Or is Air Canada scouting the airport out? The aircrafts used are slightly smaller than what WJ currently operates out of the airport.

Flightaware also shows this, so likely not a glitch. Would be fabulous if either Air Canada or WestJet would start operating flights towards the East. I know the Toronto flight did not work out, but if they had a flight in to Winnipeg, it would make connecting to other larger centres a lot easier for Brandon and surrounding area travellers. Seem's like a waste when it's only a 2 hour drive, but other centre's that are that close together do operate flights, and it seems to work out.

At first I figured it could have been a diversion, but typically it would show it as a diversion. If they did start flying to Winnipeg it would make connections way easier. Air Canada operates the Red Deer to Calgary flight, and it seems to do alright despite how close the two cities are together.

Interesting....Have sent off a req to Air Canada's media team to see if they're able to speak further to what you've noticed. Not one to jump to conclusions, but generally speaking a bright and early connection into a bigger airport anywhere would be an awful nice gateway into their network of flights.

Depending on the cost, I could see the Brandon-Winnipeg flight being a success. Would be convenient for business travel, doctors appointments, and mostly connecting flights.
If you factor the cost of having to stay overnight in winnipeg to either catch a flight, or get to an early morning appointment, the cost of a quick flight as long as the price isn't ridiculous would likely be worth it. Plus, at the moment, Brandon airport has free parking, so eliminating that from your travel cost if you didn't have to leave your vehicle at the Winnipeg Airport, it does make sense to consider a flight in to Winnipeg .

It would be great to get an official word on it. I'm not going to get my hopes up, but it would be so great to have that option.

I'm probably not looking in the right spot but I did a quick Flightaware lookup and can only find reference to one flight today on a search of YBR->YWG?
When you dig a little further it looks like the jet is connected to the Thunder Bay-Winnipeg route that AC does fly:

Digging further, it shows that the Thunder Bay to Winnipeg route that normally takes about an hour and a half took 5 hours today and happened to arrive at Winnipeg the same time and on the same plane as the Brandon flight. Hopes now pointed steadily downward

It possibly could have been a diversion. The more I look into it, it looks as if it was a single flight, operated by Air Canada. Although Flightradar shows 2 instances, they share the same flight number. I wouldn't completely rule out the possibility, it would likely be a good route.

was a diversion due to weather in Winnipeg and airport guidance system being down.

Looked closer at the tracker for the aircraft and saw this as well. Disappointing.....but gets the talk started I guess for future possibilities.

I said this to a friend when chatting about this.... if this has the byproduct of showing someone somewhere within AC that we’re thinking about them then whats the harm

What Westjet has done here is great but to be blunt so many of their connections out of Brandon are priced to the point of impracticality when they're compared to driving to Winnipeg and flying from there. Maybe a competitive nudge would change that even just a little bit, respectful of the fact that we want any airline that flies out of here to be able to make a business case of it!

actually could of been other aircraft to divert here is morning, but only the one decided to land here.

Aircraft diverting to Brandon isn't new.
