So...its hot outside I thought we'd go to the outdoor pools like we've been doing all summer....but guess what they're closed. Can you believe that? However almost every community around Brandon continues to keep their pools open until after the long weekend. Why can't Brandon, a much larger centre, keep theirs open??

We came to souris today for exactly that reason. Currently +30, we are having a great day at the souris pool

I am going to take a stab in the dark as to why. Places like Souris/Wawanesa pool have other programs such as aqua-fit and lane swimming till the 1st of Sept. Then last swim is Sept. long weekend. You look at a lot of little places this is the case. Brandon has the sportsplex. If you want to swim is the sportslplex not open? Today is +30. The radio said average daytime temps for today is high of 22 and low 8. That being said low of 8 you would be lucky to be 20 above by lunch. And even at +22 the spray parks are usually dead at those temperatures yet during the summer they were open and nobody showed. So when planning staffing their websites say till Aug. 27th so staffing for these locations could prove difficult if you have already told staff when they would be done work for the season. I am sure a lot go back to school or have found other jobs.

The sportsplex is closed for maintence actually. So it would've be nice if the pools had remained open to cover that loss. Now we have to travel and support another community instead of our own. Its too bad we can't have wonderful family fun places here...we have to leave to find those...

According to the website, it closes September 2nd (until the 23rd) for maintenance. So technically it's is "open to cover that loss" for most of the week. Also, the Y pool is open and has public swimming all week.  
 
I agree that it's not unreasonable to close the pools this week as they are not heated and I find them frigid at the best of times. Especially because they leak like a sieve and have water added to them constantly, so they never really get a chance to warm up like a lake would.
