Need advice from mechanic or hobbyist...vehicle has 25% pad left, was told no need for replacement yet. Have been squeaking for a few years mostly in the warmers months. It's just driving me totally batty! I took it to a local garage and they "fixed" them by applying adhesive and putting the pads on again was told this would do the trick. Just as squeaky as before and out $200( asked for another $300 to fix them for sure this time. Said no and am now unsure who to trust or where to go who can help me. Was told rotors were rusted and when I asked if they could grind them or replace them they said that was pointless as it would just keep reoccurring, wouldn't provide timeline for how fast that happens. Thank you in advance for any help!

Had this problem as well. We tried a bunch of stuff before giving up and just buying new breaks. Works fine now. Sorry not that helpful.

25% is not a lot. Buy the goods ones.

Thanks for suggestions. What brand of pads are good? What is a cost approximation for new brakes: parts and install? Where is a good place to take vehicle for brakes?

You could have one of multiple things causing the noise.  
1. Caliper pins or brake pads hardware could be seized.  
2. Some economy pads have a high metal content causing them to make noise.  
3. Some brake pads have a wear indicator on the interior pad that will make noise when the need to be changed.  
4. Drum brakes have contact points on the backing plate where the shoes make contact which could require lubrication.  
 
Without looking at the vehicle first hand it would be hard to diagnose. Also note that parts vary greatly in price from model to model

Quick way to get rid of the noise is to drag the brakes. Apply the brakes while on the gas pedal. Or buy new pads. Pads are cheap.

although I suspect the brakes are ready to be changed, as 25% on not a lot. they will not all be the same, so if one is 25% there will be one at 15%  
 
try this though I have had success before to get rid of noisy brakes,  
 
find an empty parking lot where you can get up a bit of speed in reverse....and hit the brakes firmly. try it a couple of times, might work depending on whats causing the noise.

reread you post, you said that they have been squeaky for a couple of years!!!! and usually in summer?  
 
does it only happen when you apply the brakes. It sounds it it could be your suspension. squeaking on old rubber shock mounts.  
 
get someone with some muscle and bounce the car on each corner, see if you get the same squeak. if it does, that not brakes.
