Just wondering how the City Landfill handles the hazardous waste they collect for disposal such as corrosive liquid, poison, fuel, and other dangerous liquids. Are they dumped into an underground vat or do they farm out the disposal process? Can these sort of items be recycled like paint?

The reason we were asking is we previously did a drop off and wondered about the hazardous goods handling process because there was no one there.  
 
We told the person at the gate what we had, and we were told to take it over to the hazardous area and leave it. There was a person dropping off after us too.  
 
So we wondered if the city employees are trained to handle this stuff themselves or if another company comes in? Maybe they just sort it at the end of the day?  
 
Should they not have someone monitoring that area at all times when the public can get into the landfill?
