Why is it that when some of you put up ads for eg. a house for sale, you put the location as Brandon, then when you get reading the des:cription find out the house is in Rivers, Rapid City, Dauphin, etc. Its annoying! Sorry end of rant!

What you're seeing is likely a result of the fact that Brandon is the default location on the submission form. Its possible that when scrolling and submitting their ad the odd person from another town in the area forgets to change to their own town.  
The alternative would be for me to not have any city or town selected by default, but its a bit of a give and take that has its plusses and minuses on both sides. By having the largest centre in the area selected I'm at least saving submission time for a percentage of folks that are submitting, and the thought is that the quicker one is able to fill out the submission form the more ad submissions we're likely to see!  
 
As a somewhat related aside, to make sure that the site stays as local as it can be to Southwestern Manitoba, eBrandon is setup to serve an area defined as a box with extremities:  
- Riding Mountain National Park at the North  
- the US border at the South  
- the Sask border to the West  
- MacGregor to the East  
 
If you're seeing an ad that turns up to be from outside of that area, the only submissions that may be accepted are the odd big ticket item (e.g. a vehicle) where the submitter is clear in the text of their ad where they are located. If you notice someone posting en masse from outside of the area please don't hesitate to drop me a note. I always appreciate when someone has interest in using the site but I take maintaining localness seriously and would like the chance to follow up!

Just noticed this week that if you log in to edit your classified ad, changing location is not an option. So if somebody forgets to change the default location in their original ad, as far as I can tell there's no way to go back and edit it other than deleting ad and resubmitting

This always annoys me too! Now that Adam has explained the default I can see how it happens by accident. However, Adam if you read this my vote would be that the default should be nothing. I would rather the ad be vague than misleading!

My thoughts are that a person should be forced to choose a location instead of having a default when it comes to housing in particular (rooms, suites, houses) for rent or sale. Jobs are another that should not have a default. These are very specific things that have a fixed location and are not like a household item that can be brought into the city from elsewhere.
