Believe we should never pass a fault and take responsibility for our actions. You appear to push the blame away from the parents and the kid, not cool! Somebody should own this problem. You claim that parents work multiple jobs to put food on the table. Was this the case here? Do you know this to be a fact or just shifting the blame to thin air as there is nothing anyone can do about this, kids will be kids? You do realize that this is extremely serious. This stunt coukd have easily resulted in a death or worse. Somebody shoukd answer for this!

I was driving the van that was beside you at 26th & Vic. That guy was extra sketchy, and I was thinking of getting out to help you when the light changed and you were able to pull away.

And I'm certain that most of the public will never know about it as well seeing the kid was only 12. I'm just glad it wasn't one of my kids, cause it would be me going to jail for disciplining them.

I have never had anything like that happen before and had been at work since 815 that morning, so all I wanted to do was get home! I didn’t think until afterwards of what I would have done if he had been more determined! I appreciate knowing that help would have been there for me!

According to CBC, it''s not the first time this 12 year old boy has committed a crime and has been causing trouble in Winnipeg since he was five. I guess now he's Brandon's problem.

To be consistent with the young offenders act I would respectfully ask that the accused in this or other potentially related cases not be identified. Thanks in advance.

Actually they do have to pay for it now. you have no coverage if your committing a crime or intoxicated. what they do is essentially MPI pays it and sends you the bill.

However, it sounds like there's a good chance this kid is in care with Metis Child & Family. So I imagine that's who MPI will bill.  
 
So we pay either way.  
 
It's unfortunate, really, that legislation doesn't have more teeth to intervene with this kid earlier. Maybe now that he's old enough to charge and force to get help, this young man can see some positive changes in his life.

i would expect that he is already back on the street thanks to catch and release policies

Probably another troubled youth brought to Brandon to live in a for profit group home and drive

didn`t want this kid`s identity disclosed, that should go for possible race too. It doesn`t matter the colour, it matters that this kid sounds like he is horribly screwed up and needs some serious help. Let`s hope he gets it here in Brandon!

I don't see any intent to make this a discussion about race. The main point re identity is respecting the young offenders act, which does not allow youth to be identified. Identifying the CFS agency responsible doesn't identify the youth.

I realize the boy`s name is not listed but the Metis child and family service only looks after Metis children, that`s my point. The same is if someone mentioned DOTC child and family service.  
 
Too bad that someone always has to slip in the race card.

For anyone complaining about the organization that was mentioned, that is actually public knowledge.  
 
There was a CBC News article out yesterday that this boy is in their care and has been on the police radar since he was 5yrs old and up until now the young offenders act protected him from being charged with anything.  
 
The news article mentioned his past crimes involved arson, theft, and a stabbing in Winnipeg. Again all public knowledge. Read it for yourself. The cops have hand their hands tied with this child up until now.

I am glad that the Metis CFS was mentioned in the paper.

He was re-arrested again on Tuesday night for breaching his recognizance including not being with his care providers and not attending school as required.

now what? What is the long term plan for this youth? Are his car providers unable to supervise him appropriately?

we need boot camps for some of these kids! A loving hand can go a long way but sometimes that's not enough.

This kid obviously has problems beyond his own ability to fix.  
 
Perhaps he needs professional supervision and one on one education. Yes it costs money, however consider the expenses he'll cause in the future. He might need this care and supervision for the rest of his life.

Sorry that my previous post was misinterpreted!! I only mentioned Metis CFS because it was in the paper/in the news, to demostrate that the money is coming out of public coffers anyways because the government is in fact the guardian.  
 
But really, just the fact that the kid was in CFS care (regardless of which agency) would, unfortunately, strongly suggest that the kid was aboriginal. It doesn't make it for sure, but so often we hear in the news that aboriginal kids make up the majority of kids in care, disproportionately so. Most people would make that leap I think. Again, not making it about race, just the details, as released by the media, does tend to point in that direction. I admit it might be bias on my part.  
 
Anyway, regardless of who this kid is, I hope he can get the help he needs while he's still young. I hate the thought that his trajectory is somehow set to be in and out of jail for the rest of his life.

of a rough time trying to grow up. I wish babies were brought into this world for one reason only, for love. Too many children are born because the parent/s get money to raise them, welfare. The more babies the more cash, not right IMO.  
 
I hope this kid can turn his life around too.

was he not on probation when this incident occurred ? then out on recog and did not comply again , catch and release at its finest .

Supervised means the have to call in to a po once a week or so often... Unsupervised is nothing really .... I have to meet with a po at the start discuss ur plans n move on never to see them again...

Pretty harsh that a guy makes a minor mistake during a split moment decision to avoid killing someone with a bus during a collision he that is not at fault for and you expect him to lose his job, at which he may be an otherwise great employee with a perfect driving record....

That is not what the driver said. The crown attorney told the court that it looks like it happened that way. The driver said the boy hit the front side of his bus pushing it into the building. This has not fault on the driver of the bus but thanks for trying to make him feel bad. I have seen and investigated many many accident where the front corner of a vehicle was hit, forcing it to go in an unintended direction. Many long time Brandonites will remember the two bus collision at 13th and Victoria as an example.

Where do you think the Crown Attorney got her information from? I highly doubt that she pulled it out of her a**. No doubt that our police force investigated and provided their decision! Another fact printed in the Brandon Sun as seen by a witness states that the stolen car had slowed down before the red light before proceeding thru.  
 
If you are a driver of a vehicle that weighs a couple of tons then you had better damn well know some defensive driving! I don't drive a lot on the highway but when I seen part of a deer carcass on the road in front of me I sure as hell remembered that I needed to 'take the hit' rather that try to swerve to avoid it. I would have rolled the vehicle and we would have all been dead.  
 
Thankfully, no pedestrian was killed walking on the sidewalk!  
 
And you tell me this, how does a small car that had slowed down push a bus anywhere when the bus outweighs the car by a couple of tons and it ten times the size of the car?  
 
Not saying that this kid doesn't deserve punishment either. If he were mine..... he wouldn't have the chance to pull BS stunts like that!

You obviously do not understand the momentum and force behind a moving vehicle hitting another moving vehicle. The size of the bus in comparison to the car is hardly relevant in this situation.  
 
The front end of the bus has nothing to it, all the weight is in the back end of it, I dont know what speed the kid was going down princess but yes he might have slowed down but that could still mean he was doing 50 or 60 depending on what speed he managed to get up to in the first place.  
 
The bus driver wouldn't of saw the kid coming at that intersection, there are large buildings on 3/4 corners blocking view of oncoming traffic until you are basically at the stop lines.  
 
Could the bus driver of come up with a better location for the bus to end up? Probably but again that depends on the other traffic in the area and the fact that someone blind sided him and had a split second to react. He probably made the right call as opposed to smashing into another vehicle on the road possibly injuring or killing someone.
