I know the City of Brandon has a number that can be called for non-compliance related to the removal of bins from back lanes after a period of time but does anyone know if the garbage/recycle bins can be picked up on the left and/or the right side of a back lane? We have back lane neighbours that move their bins that block our driveway. Hopefully, we will hear back from the Sanitation Department tomorrow regarding the left/right lane pickup of the bins but in the meantime does anyone else know the correct answer?

kinda depends on which way you are facing. the trucks always pick up on the right side of the truck. But going north the bins would need to be on the east side, going south they need to be on the west side. but they wont go both ways on the same lane.  
 
I suspect it matches up with the side the power poles are on as there is more room on that side. At least in my area.  
 
your neighbour blocking your driveway?? thats just being rude and stupid. Call the police or bylaw and they will have that straightened out, or talk to the neighbour and ask why he places them where they do.

locating the bins in many lanes can be a challenge , the city needs to be a bit more flexible with going both ways down more lanes so that the bins can be less of a PITA

it is so easy just to move your bin to the side it needs to go to and then move it back. In the winter, just keep your path shoveled. Most elderly people will have a neighbor who will help them. Can you imagine the time it would take for the trucks to go up and down both sides of a back lane. Double the time, double the wages, double the wear and tear on the trucks.  
 
Be glad you are not in Airdrie, AB and don't pay per bag of garbage.

We have called numerous times for our back lane between 6and 7th street.Nothing has been done yet. Owners leaving there bins in the back lane all year.

Keep calling the Sanitation Department with the bin numbers/letters. We have been told to do this as the owners of the bins will be given a warning. Anymore complaints regarding the same bin numbers/letters and the owner can receive up to a thousand dollar fine.

if moving the bins is so easy why does the truck go down the lane both ways in some blocks and not others ?

I like to thanks the city of Brandon for the service I got Friday. After forgetting to put my bin out on time Thursday I still tried to see if they pick up late. They didn’t but to my surprise they pick it up Friday morning even moved it from beside my garage then put it back in place. Wow thank you

Are your neighbours blocking your driveway because there’s nowhere else to put them? Call Public Works if that’s the case. When they first brought this system in, at our old house we demonstrated that there was literally no place for our neighbours’ bins to go other than behind our car, and they were quite accommodating by moving our block to street pick up out front.

I also have to give a big shout out to the city of Brandon sanitation. After that big wind storm we had, a saw the guy in the truck get out multiple times to put peoples bins that blown over upright to be emptied. He could have just driven on by but chose to go above and beyond. Kudos!
