Anyone else notice the large number of city sanders driving around? This has been going on for weeks already. No idea what they could be sanding as I see hardly any sand on the streets anywhere. Maybe I’m missing something.

Sand is yesterday's tech.

Streets are wet due to the mild temps, but temps drop over night and freeze. So ice melter/salt is being used. Be thankful instead of critical.

For what? Salt on the streets. I don't think so. Bad for the environment and vehicles. Proper tires and driving habits better in my opinion.

And a waste of tax cash. Yes, the streets are a bit slippery in spots in the morning but it's not like we had an ice storm. Drive to the conditions.  
 
Beg them to clear streets after it snows and they lollygag. "Let's wait out the snowfall. Don't want to waste money while it's still snowing" As it snows for three days straight.  
 
I will be critical when I see taxpayer money being wasted.

I guess we should be thankful for the two plows that we seen out today too?  
 
We have had some pretty warm days lately but mid afternoon we would see the sanders cruising the streets. Why??

The product gets applied and stays for a day or four. Applied mid day when the staff get regular time or wait until night when overtime kicks in?  
 
I am not sure of the plows but maybe they were catching some streets where built up ice needed persuasion. Removal of the ice faster than the melt was doing. Complaint driven maybe?

Out in the afternoon would most likely be patrolling the streets testing the road surfaces and checking for trouble spots at intersections and merge lanes. The use of the trucks makes sense as they can apply traction AIDS and correct the problem early enough to reduce hazards to motorists and pedestrians without delay.

I get that they might be spreading ice melter and not sand. But I’m talking about seeing them driving around in the evening every night for at least two to three weeks now. Only reason I mention the evening is because I work inside during the day and don’t happen to see them. I’m guessing they are out then too.

Yes, they are out patrolling during the day as well. Light snow such as what we have today is the primary concern as the intersections get greased up pretty quickly with drivers not adjusting their habits to suit the road conditions...

It never ceases to amaze me the number of experts/keyboard jockeys who know more then the people who are in paid positions when it comes to making decisions:

It one of those cases where your damned if you do and damned if you don''t. People are mad when the city has sanding trucks driving around when the roads don''t appear to be icy and on the other hand theirs people mad when the roads are icy or snow covered, like today and the roads aren''t cleared of snow or are icy. What can you do? Cant please everyone.  
 
On a side note, the City of Brandon uses a sand/road salt mix on the roads. Every year there's a tender on the cities website for winter sand mix and road salt, including this year.

can agree, when it feels like spring is in the air mid afternoon the sanding trucks should be parked, at the Parks complex We have had some mild weather in the past week, melting happened!  
 
I live by a four way stop sign, plenty of times the road looks like glass but not even a sprinkle from a sanding truck when cruising the street.
