Holiday show of appreciation for daycare providers, preschool & school teacher

I plan on doing chocolates & gift certificates for coffee and/or restaurant, movie theater
Wondering what others thoughts are on holiday gifting for the above. My kids aren't in the school system yet, is gifting to teachers encouraged or discouraged?
