In our area there is a fundraiser and a group is selling Christmas trees. The options are :  
premium sheared balsam  
premium fraser fir  
#1 white pine  
I have looked up all three and the Fraser Fir gets the best reviews from what I have read. However my concern is the smell. I have never had a real tree nor have I ever been to someone's house who had a real tree. It says it has a nice fragrance, but is it over powering? Horrible for allergies?  
The article on the #1 white pine said it was good for people who had allergies because there is no scent, however, the branches aren't the best for holding decorations. Looking for some input from people who have experience when it comes to having a real Christmas tree. T.I.A

I have had many real trees and visited many homes with real trees at Christmastime and I have never found the scent to be overpowering. Natural scents from real plants are generally mild. It's concentrated essential oils and artificial fragrances that cause irritation for most people.  
 
I don't have allergies so I can't really comment on that part, but I have never heard of a pine/fir/spruce tree aggravating allergies (except when the pollen is flying in the spring).

Are you that you can support a local fundraiser? I would much rather support a cause with my purchase than a "for profit" tree yard.  
 
I usually get real trees and never have an issue with the smell of them. I love it and do not find it too strong. I have real issues with perfumes and cigarette smoke though. Hubby has quite a few trees in his allergen profile and I don't think Christmas trees ever bug him.

Love a real tree and the beautiful fragrance at Christmas time! Not overpowering that's for sure. We have three, not sure which one we are putting up lol!
