I tend to lean towards gift cards from somewhere pretty safe like a coffee shop, the mall, etc.
I'm not sure how all teacher's feel, but I think getting all kinds of little knick knacks and stuff are likely things they just don't know what to do with if there are so many. I even stay away from things like chocolate, baking, or lotion, etc, just because so many people have different allergies, and diet restrictions. I would say that if you think they are in to things like hand lotion, get them a gift card to bath and body works or something. Then they can choose something they actually like. As for liquor, that's a no go for me. I don't think you can send actual bottles of wine or whatever with the kid to school to give to the teacher, and I don't even think I'd be comfortable sending an LC gift card with my child to school. Doesn't really give the child the right idea about gift giving in my opinion.
Staples or Christies gift cards would likely be appreciated as well, because they can buy school supplies with them.
