Katwalk1909 you had so much detailed information about the topic that I'm almost speechless. Really good points about the costs. However, I kind of have to support Matt in this one. I prefer public transportation for mainly environmental reasons but also because we only have one car in our household and my spouse works almost every weekend.  
I don't need the buses to run every half an hour on Sundays. Once an hour would be fine and I personally wouldn't mind paying an extra fee etc. for Sunday rides to cover some of the extra costs and/or "ban" the use of bus passes on holidays/Sundays. Where I come from we have this kind of system and it seemed to be working just fine. I think Brandon's transit system has a lot of potential but the city doesn't seem to be interested in developing it at this point. However, like you said developing comes with costs and if residents mindset doesn't change to be more public transportation oriented then it's hard to keep the system profitable. And of course there's lots of other things that need the funding as well....
