From my own point of view . . .  
 
I like a sense of humour and romantic surprises, big and small. Remembering some obscure artist I like or my weird food preferences, to being spoilt and coddled on a date.  
 
If my partner is not physically able to be near to me, then tokens of effort would appear in my days. Unscheduled phone calls to tell me he was thinking of me, notes tucked into pockets, etc.  
 
I am huge on honesty in all aspects . . . do I look good in this? What made you say that? Did you gas up the car? Not a needling person, just one who likes honesty in these responses.  
 
Trust. Trust is necessary in both directions. To be able to whole heartedly trust that the other pserson is with you because they choose to be and likewise, goes a long way.  
 
In realtion to any lifestyle or career choice (pipeline, truckers, miners, performers, construction, etc) that may distance the parties . . . I believe these considerations are very easy to accomodate to nurture and enable healthy and passionate relationships.
