Downtown area every day at noon & 4 & 7 pm the bells ring why ?( in Brandon)

Noon seems self explanatory but 4 and 7 make me curious now that you said it.  
 
I wish I lived close enough to a church bell to hear it, all I hear is traffic and the emergency alert music on wednesday at 1545 or is it 1645, I can't remember now.

St Augustine's church would be noon or whenever they have a service. I live right by there. Its doesn't bother me any, actually quite nice to listen to.

If you know what church it is, why don't you just call them and politely inquire as to the reasoning behind the timing of the bell ringing. I'm sure that answer would be more accurate than a bunch of speculation on eBrandon.

If you're right downtown you're likely hearing the bells at St. Hedwig's. They're across from the courthouse on 11th. I was downtown recently and heard them at noon.  
 
Traditionally, in the Catholic faith bells are rung at the Angelus times -usually 6a.m., 12noon, and 6p.m. They to accompany a prayer ("The Angelus") that is said at those times. It's a tradition that hails back to an era where timepieces were not commonplace, and it wvould indicate to the faithful it was time for those prayers.  
 
But why 4and 7 I don't know, lol.

I just repaired the St. Hedwigs Cairlon system on June 26th (it was physically turned off for a few months before that due to the clock motor dying and it took 8 weeks to source and receive a replacement motor).  
 
It was programmed to only activate at noon and then before Masses (services) on Sunday. In fact we had just enough pins to program those times (this is a 1970's original Cairlon system).  
 
Are you sure it is St. Hedwigs because I can't see any way for them to ring at 4 and 7 every day based on the programming options. Even if the time was set incorrectly 4 and 7 doesn't make sense. But just to be safe I will investigate.  
 
St. Augustines is computer controlled and programmed for noon and 6pm daily as well as before Masses (services). The Angelus was just re-programmed a few weeks ago after some bell tower maintenance. The bells run on software that I wrote and the time is synced to a time server once a day so I can guarantee that it does not ring at 4 and 7 on weekdays. Now if someone is at the controller they can ring the bells anytime through the day that they want but that's a different matter.

church that has a Cairlon in that area is St. Matthews.  
 
I worked on it 13-14 years ago but I'm sure it is not working again as it was an even older system that used punch cards to play the music.  
 
If someone was playing around with it it is possible that they got it powered up and the times could be set incorrectly?

I don't think the church on the corner of 11th & Lorne rings their bells .  
 
and their is a new church (office not sure right 10th St the 200 block not sure if they ring bells .

is Central United. I did a little work on that one around 12 years ago but it is a smaller system that play cassettes if I recall correctly. It is also possible that the timer was turned on on that device.  
 
When I worked on it I simply fix it so they could play the organ through them (using bell sounds) and didn't do anything with the scheduled playback system.

On 11th right across from the courthouse has the bells ringing at noon but I do not recall hearing them at 4. Cannot say about 7. The church behind New Era school did have bells at noon but I have not been in that area much recently so cannot say if they still do.  
 
I love hearing the church bells.

Funny . . . I don't even hear them anymore. Must be a combination of familiarity, not being home most afternoons and headphones.

The intent is to remind people about Jesus and to not forget the church.

I would imagine as with anything religious the rules/expectations change depending on what religious sect you are a member of.  
 
I would expect some religions use them to signify events where others may use them to signify prayer times. St. Augustines for example uses them for both. The Angelus signifies a time for prayer but they also ring to "call parishioners to mass" and are also used after weddings and funerals.

Of places especially smaller towns have bells or sirens go off morning noon and supper so maybe they do noon then after work kind of time and after supper. I'm from minnedosa and the town siren goes off 8am noon and 6pm every day.

This reminds me of a photo I found that my mother took. It was a picture of a church in Germany where my Dad was stationed.  
 
On the back my mom wrote; this church rings its bells every hour on the hour. It sounds like a lot more. LOL
