i doubt that this is the whole story , as with habitat before it was reorganized this group was not serving the community as well as they should have , hopefully the C M H A winnipeg group will see fit to organize a group in brandon again .

So, this group is breaking away from the National organization or the National Org is changing its name?

Only thing a name change does is spend money changing all the literature, websites, business cards, etc.  
 
A waste of money which could have gone to help the same people they say they are trying to help.  
 
And trying to eliminate "mental" from the name just adds to the stigma of "mental illness" not reduce it. Would you remove the name "physical" if it was in the name? No. Any of us with a mental illness are not disturbed or stigmatized by the word 'mental".  
 
It is the way media and people use the diagnosis of many of the mental illnesses as a explanation of why a person does not act accordingly to norm.

And as Opustwo asked, why are they changing? If they have broke from the National organization, why? or the reverse side have they been kicked out, why?  
 
Anyway changing name just costs money and does NOTHING in reducing any stigma. The fact that they want to remove mental says it all,

Why is CMHA breaking away from National? There have been personnel issues with this organization in the past. Who will govern this group now?  
 
What we need these days is more accountability and transparency from any organizations that get public funding and less break off branches.
