I am looking for people who have recently filed for divorce on their own without having to utilize a lawyer. I have started my divorce process by filing the original Petition for Divorce at the courthouse, however, I'm a little overwhelmed by what I THOUGHT was going to be an easy process.  
 
My divorce is what I would call "easy". We've been separated for seven years (living in different provinces), there are no minor children, no support payments either way, and no property division. It's a matter of both parties signing a piece of paper. Simple right? I'm learning that it's not.  
 
If anyone has recently gone through this process or are currently going through the process I would soooo appreciate any insight or guidance on how you did it.

A friend did his own divorce. Printed off the papers, filled them out, got them signed and witnessed: then filed. $150 total and some paperwork. I''m working on doing the same thing.

Cee Jay 55 posted some great links and I definitely used that video to help fill out the petition for divorce.  
This process can seem very intimidating but for a no fault-non contested divorce, its not as hard as you would think.  
 
6-8 weeks after you've filed your petition, call the court registry office and confirm the CDR certificate as arrived. If it has, make the decision to have an affidavit divorce or an oral hearing and fill out the requisition for which ever you choose. Take that as well as three copies of a divorce judgment (Form 70O) and two envelopes with postage, one addressed to you and one to your spouse and file at the court office. Note: If you request an affidavit divorce you may need to file an affidavit of petitioners evidence as well.  
wait another 4-6 weeks and you will be informed via mail whether your divorce has been granted. If the judge signs the divorce judgment, one copy will be mailed to you and one copy will be mailed to your spouse.  
31 days after your divorce has been grated, you can go and ask for your divorce certificate at the court house and they will give it to you right then and there.

I did my own divorce for the most part. I did end up paying $800 to a lawyer just to file the papers in court though.

If you've already filed your petition, then it would be silly to go to a lawyer now. The total cost (not including your divorce certificate) has already been paid. You just have a bit more paper work to do.  
The worst part, is the waiting period in-between those steps.

The whole process was done through emails and they provided great advice and support through the whole process. And we have kids and pensions and the whole thing went very smoothly. They give you step by step instructions on where to go and when, and they fill out all your paperwork for you. I’ve recommended this to other people who’ve had positive results as well. And they don’t take your money until the process is complete.
