Hello fellow ebrandoners  
I have a query....How does one go about finding information on past employment ?  
I have sorted through alot of my paperwork and have not found anything yet. I am looking for 1993 back to 1986. I am needing this information for a resume. Present resume only goes back to 1993.  
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Memory.  
I can tell you where I worked and when I worked there-not to mention the 3 different positions I held during my years with one firm-right back to 1978.  
 
If you cannot remember where you worked or when you worked there I guess...pay stubs? Old tax returns? If you did not keep those through all the years then not sure what your options are. Family? Friends?

My best guess would be to contact the Canada Revenue Agency and maybe they can help you regarding employment back from 1986.

If it’s not relevant to the job you are applying for......I wouldn’t even bother going that far back

Not sure why a resume would need to include information from that far back?  
Most online resources say to only include work history that is either relevant to the position being applied for, or to only include the last few years.  
No one in an HR position wants to sift through resumes that are longer than 2 pages, and I'm guessing that work history dating back to 1986 (+30 years!!) will take up much more than 2 pages.

Me not so much. No old pay stubs either. Will have to ask my brother if he remembers. Thanks for the ideas

Don't really want it any longer but the info would be relevant to job. And yeah once you get to 2 pages it just becomes blah blah - file 13 !!!

Just add a “related work experience” section listing where you worked and what your positions were. That way you still showcase your related experience and where you got it from without having to worry about dates! I’m not sure how long the CRA holds onto your ROEs for but it would be worth checking out. However I do agree with other responders that you don’t need to go back much further than 10 years on a resume unless it’s directly related experience. Good luck!
