No, Polygamy and polyamory aren't the same thing. Polyamory is ethical non-monogamy, gender is irrelevant and relationships are build on openness, mutual acceptance between consenting partners, and trust. Usually little emphasis is placed on hierarchy.  
Polygamy is an individual having multiple marriages, usually heterosexual, although not always. Usually tied into some sort of religious aspect.

I know several poly couples in the area they are here. Have you tried searching Facebook ? May not be “local “ but a lot of people just use winnipeg to seem more anonymous

We, as human beings, have choices when we hear about something we are not familiar with. We can take the opportunity to learn, we can jump to conclusions and equate it to something it is not or we can crack jokes. I have minimal knowledge of the Poly amorous life but am learning a little and applaud others who are trying to learn something new.

My partner and I have lived a Polyamorous/open relationship model for a LOT of years, as well as being involved in the provincial (and Canadian) BDSM scene as participants and educators... However, there doesn't seem to be that many open Poly people locally. One of the better places to Find them would be on alternative lifestyle websites like Fetlife.  
 
My partner and I are always willing to meet for a coffee, talk, answer questions or have a discussion provided we're not busy pretending to Adult (lol).  
 
I think the big thing is in Brandon anyway people are so paranoid about being "outed" that they try not to publicly discuss or partake of a Poly relationship model, let alone go out for coffee or what-have-you for fear of someone questioning.  
 
Honestly, we are both "out" about our lifestyle choices, and really enjoy correcting or educating when there is some obviously serious misinformation (as you can tell in this thread).  
 
To be honest, We don't come to E-Brandon too much and were only informed of this thread by an old friend who stumbled across it.

There are many couples in Brandon involved in this lifestyle. From my experience, teachers and realtors mostly. It’s not my scene but I don’t judge and I totally support what makes people happy!
