Applying for Disability Tax Credit
4/22/2020 at 1:01 PM
Your doctor needs to fill out most of the application, explaining your condition and how it prevents you from working on a regular basis. The requirements are quite stringent.
Once your application is reviewed you'll receive a letter saying your application was disallowed or that you have met the requirements. Once you're approved you are then on file with the CRA and can claim this credit on your income tax return. If you try to claim it and have not been approved your tax return will be rejected.
The sum of the credit is quite substantial, but most people receiving it do not make enough money to use it all. In that case, the remaining tax credits can be transferred and used by a relative that is providing the "basics of life" (food, shelter, clothing ) o n their tax return.
