I'm hoping someone who's done some genealogy stuff can get me pointed in the right direction.  
 
Quick summary: I've been researching the family history of my husband's grandmother on and off for about 15 years now (mostly off, but I've picked it up again recently with new searchable databases and documents available). We knew very little about the family as his grandmother was orphaned at a very young age and was raised by her step-mother and her new husband. She knew very little of her own history.  
 
Over the years, I've pieced together a fair bit of information and I've got a good timeline for events up until Grandma's second parent died. But there's still gaps. Some new information I've recently unearthed - census records provided me with immigration years, for example - but then I'm reaching a dead end following up on that new information.  
 
Specifically, I'm trying to find information about her parents' deaths and more about their immigration. I have a copy of the mother's provincial death record, but details are scanty and the records otherwise would have been destroyed in the flood of 1950. We don't know where her grave is, although I've not yet exhausted all possibilities. I also know nothing about her father's death except the year (and that's only from the gravestone - which has the incorrect birth year so I'm not sure how much I trust it lol). There is no provincial record of his death, no newspaper listings, and I've been unsuccessful trying to get church records for a decade now (although they may be been destroyed in a fire... no one seems to know).  
 
Is there anywhere else I can look? I had even canvassed elderly members of my own family many years ago as they all immigrated from the same region and lived in the same settlement area in Manitoba and their story was compelling enough that maybe someone might have remembered them.  
 
I'm also struggling with the immigration database. I know his immigration year is 1910 (hers is also listed as that, which may or may not be accurate), I know the general region he immigrated from, but beyond that I have nothing. I've searched the Russian empire and Ukrainian immigration databases maintained by Archives with no success (because that was the general region they immigrated from), but to search the general passenger lists I need a boat name, or a port, or something else (I can't simply search by name/year). There was 2000 boats that arrived in 1910 lol. Is there somewhere else I can look, or somewhere I might be able to glean more information?  
 
Sorry for the lengthy post. It's irritating me that I feel like I've made some progress, only to stall again. I've got some outstanding requests to church archivists for both rites, but I'm not holding out much hope as I've had not much luck in the past with those.

the Ellis Island records would have them as immigrants. Yes I know they came to Canada but many actually arrived in the States and came overland.  
Have you searched on the Familysearch website or on OliveTree.  
What part of Manitoba did they come to, maybe they appear in one of the local history books?  
I presume you have been on the "pay to view" sites like Ancestry and FMP etc.  
Would you be willing to actually post their names and details of where they came from, have you done a web search on the names?  
The local Church of Latter Day Saints (FamilySearch), has access to millions of records in Salt Lake City and are always willing to assist without obligation.  
Is there a web group that is for that particular set of folks who immigrated from the Russia area that your folks left?

tried DNA sites?  
Have you contacted the Manitoba Genealogy society in Brandon?  
IS there a Ukrainian association in Brandon that might have people who are up on the ships people who came to the area at the same time were on?  
Have you looked in community history books that might have your family or neighbour families that may have come over at same time?  
The genealogy society has many if not all the community history books as well as henderson directories.  
I have done some research but only with in Canada on my family so by no means do I have knowledge of what you are looking for. Just offering ideas where to look.  
Also are you familiar with Find a Grave? If you can search you family members and find where buried maybe you can confirm or deny the marker you saw with wrong date on it.

I was aware that some came via the US but I dismissed it as I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case there. But it's worth a shot!  
 
They settled east of the prime meridian in the Gull Lake area, but I can't find anything in the local area about them except the original land patent and his grave.  
 
They came from the Galacia area, which is right at the nexus of Ukraine/Poland/Austro-Hungarian Empire. Hundreds of thousands of people emigrated from that region.  
 
I'm hesitant to utilize any information help by the LDS church due to what they due to how their utilize the information.

You can opt out of them using any detail you give but you will only be searching anyway.  
If the immigrant ship arrived when the St. Lawrence was frozen then they would have disembarked in the States.  
Have you searched on the Canadian Government site?
