In Manitoba (and elsewhere) you can write your own. In fact, some of the lawyers here in Brandon even promote that. If lawyers are representing you, they have to have your best interests in mind, and it can make things ugly. If you know what you want, and your partner knows what they want, you can handwrite it in simple english , both sign it, have someone witness it, and it is done. Note that it will be enforceable even if it's a bad deal. The one thing you cannot negotiate away is any child support. That is set by the courts, and really belongs to the children and not either parent.
There is an old saying. You have one lawyer in a town and he will be hungry. But as soon as there are two of them, they'll do well. If you both know what you want and what you expect, and can be adults about it, you can save a lot of money and aggravation.
