working for companies with unions, or not?

With the strikes lateley, I kind of wondered what every thought about working for unions.
I personally am not very partial to unions, I have seem so many people that don't want to work keep their jobs due to the union contract. I think they are wonderful for the unmotivated worker. Just an opinion, anyone else?
