Are rich people happier?

People say that money is not the path to happiness and in fact would bring more problems. Hence living more simply and doing more good deeds may actually be a better source of happiness.
My question is, if money is such a problem, are rich people actually happy? If a materialistic lifestyle is not good, why do we still bother?
