Men in adverts

I am really tired of seeing men portrayed as fat, stupid and mean on television commercials. Next time you're watching television, take note of how many dumb, fat husbands and fathers there are. Typically with a comically fed up wife or kids who knows everything. What is prompting this aspect of advertising?
